New Truck?

H20fwler

5 year old buck +
Thinking of getting a new one soon before I retire. Leaning hard towards the Tundra, anyone drive one?
Pro’s-Con's ?

Have always driven GM or Ford but like the engineering and longevity of the Toyota that I have read up on.

I’ve always drove Ford and one GM. But we are on our 3rd 4 runner in 16 years now (wife) and if a Tundra runs and lasts like those do (zero problems zero rust in WI), my first retirement truck might be a tundra also.

My current GM (2020 Mexican Silverado) has been back to the dealer more times for recalls (5!!!) than my previous 4 F150’s combined. All bought new.

We are a Toyota family with the exception of Logan's Duramax that he needs for work. We all love ours, but no way I'd buy one of those new twin turbo V6 units. We planned on getting the wife a new Sequoia in 26 until they made that change.

If I was getting a new truck now it would be GMC 2500 with the 6.6 gas or diesel.

F250 4x4 diesel is probably where I’m headed……maybe the big gas motor but 9 mpg on my buddies rig is a little rough😂

My 2005 Tacoma has been wonderful to me!
Had a 7.3 Powerstroke for a while, it was ok.
Buddies who've bought newer Chevys and Fords have had them fall apart around them much faster than my Toyota.

We usually end up putting our first actual repair money into a 4 runner at about 100k miles. Ball joints. Other than that just filter / fluid changes and brakes / rotors.

I wonder if Toyota will ever produce a 3/4 ton pickup?

What's going on with the twin turbo? Says it has close to 400hp?

I really like the look of the Tacoma but they are just to small, I got in one with my wife and our shoulders almost touched,,,and back seat on the 4 door was super cramped.

I will let you research it and make your own decision, but it's not for me for a long term vehicle. Agreed that the Taco's are a little snug.

I can think of one con: the price.

Do they not sell Hilux in the US?

I don't trust anything with a turbo. Heard of too many problems and hella expensive to fix.

I bought a 2025 GMC Sierra SLT w/ 6.2 motor last December. Its been a very good truck so far. Very smooth ride and awful fast. Too fast sometimes. I plan to trade it in around its second birthday. Hear lots of problems with the modern trucks and I want to stay under warranty. The thing that pisses me off the most about my truck is the $900 bill that I just got in the mail so I can get my permission stickers from the govt. F THEM!!! $900 for 2 stickers. They can go to hell. Here in MN my $900 will end the property of some fraudulent Somali mud hutter. I will give my truck to anyone that can convince my wife to move to Wyoming or Montana.

I’ve heard the same….but, bought a brand new Chevy Cruze in 2014 with turbo for a work car. Thing gets almost 40 mpg, it is still going strong with over 257K miles on it now.
I’ve never had an issue with it, just oil changes and tire changes has been only expense over the years.
And I’ve heard terrible reviews on them, I got lucky with mine.

I will tell you, my shop is over flowing with the new turbo vehicles. The engines are able to produce insane amounts of power for a small engine, but the internal parts cant take it long term. Timing chains, turbos, transmissions, etc.. I could do timing chains full time on them, but I wouldnt be able to work on anything else.

The reports on the chevy 1500 baby duramax 3.0 seem to be overwhelmingly positive. I am getting closer to my last truck and right now, it is at the top of my list

I don't know, I know a buddy that has one and it drinks DEF like fuel. He's had his in the shop several times for DEF related issues. At one point he was using a tank of DEF per tank of fuel. He told me that he has several buddies that bought them and they have all experienced similar problems. When I told him I usually fill up my DEF on my Ram Eco-Diesel twice a year, he about crapped.

GM already recalled 877,000 trucks with the 6.3l engine this year.

I tried my damnedest to get a new tundra when they first came out in 23. Test drove 2 I was set on buying but I just don’t like how they drive compared to a current f150. The sight lines out aren’t near as good either.

That line blows my mind/confuses me. "Lasts"? They didn't last, they didn't have time to? They were all brand new. lol

The rust issues with ford and GM are a negative for me.
The back seat leg room in the crew cab ford and tundra are a positive. GM crew cab back seat leg room is a negative.
Nice interior in the GM and Ford are a positive. Toyota is not as nice.
All of them are stupid expensive that is a negative that I can do nothing about.
All the new 4x4 crew cabs look pretty much the same to me right now.
I do like the flat…tan, green, gray and black colors.
All the crazy new controls and gadgets are confusing to me and just stuff that can go wrong, I like simple.
