I know I hd something similar, if not the same map on here before.

Before I had not noticed (or had forgotten) where 3A has a pocket SE of Mille Lacs lake and also a finger south 1436402860255.jpg of Duluth.

What do you suppose drives such a goofy layout in north central MN? Is it an elevation change?

Elevation there is about 2 ft above sea level I think...... Interesting.

Your part of 172 probably is 3b and my part is 3a, yet you are further north? Could Leech, Winnie, and Mille Lacs have any moderating affect?

Some DNR heads are about 4 feet lower than that.... I did not say that, did I?

I know Stu and I were discussing this map on here in relationship to where we see wild crab apples.

An old reference on GRIN says the northernmost range of the prairie (ionensis) crab is Nevis, Mn.
