Mine still hanging

Liberty looks like a good one far as midwest's chart. I got 3 galarina's at home and 1 galarina on the farmland parcel I rifle hunt nov/dec.

I can probably squeeze in 2 trees at the farmland I bow hunt. Debating the roostock for there. Got m111, g890 and p18 coming. Might just add a bareroot to the order for there. It's on the hedge of a spot that is a bit too wet to plant, so it just dry enough to grow fine.

I bought soe scion from turkey creek last spring. He said he had some later dropping dolgo. IF your midwest order is a bust, turkey creek might be offering it. They got big dog, yates, galarina, and rpimetime crab for late dropping trees.

Got to see how much the scion grew this year. Worked a branch on a toringo crabapple.

Filled a 5 gallon bucket about 3/4 of the way with Braeburns that have fallen off my Frankentree over the last two weeks. Still a bunch left.

Topped off the bucket with Franklin Ciders. Bunch of them left too.

How donyou like Braeburn for eating? It used to be a favorite of mine, but it's hard to find ripe ones these days.

Squirrels were coming in and taking some of mine off the trees last week. It was a little warmer if maybe that's why they didn't get them already was because they were frozen solid? 4 fat squirrels all showed up together. They would eat on the apples until they were small enough to carry off.

I used them in applesauce but they really don't have time to fully ripen here so didn't eat any straight off the tree. That's why there are so many left on the tree still.

That is angry orchards main ingredient for their regular hard cider. Not sure why they went with braeburn. Maybe they couldn't market it for fresh eating, unripe........

Which one is Franklin cider? Upper or lower pic?

The lower pic. Small and ugly, not edible. I haven't made any attempts at cider yet.

Did you try any FC earlier in the fall, when they were near peak ripeness? Just wondering.

My droptine has finally dropped its fruit.
NE lower Michigan. I did give it a shake a couple weeks ago to accelerate this but the fruit that remained has now fallen on its own.

No, they're small and very rough looking. If I tried peeling it there wouldn't be much left to eat. I didn't thin it to see if that promoted better fruit. The tree itself is vigorous with good branch angles. I'm planning to top work, or Frankentree that one near the house, but I have one out in the deer area that I'm going to let grow.

Our FC also has good branch angles. I like that. I haven't tried any for eating, just want it to be a good wildlife tree. The fruit on our FC has been about 1 1/2" diameter on average, with some being around 2". Deer seem to like them.

Pics like this ^ ^ ^ ^ show us how the things we plant are beneficial for wildlife. They'll provide winter sustenance for years - likely decades into the future. Keeps 'em healthier through the winter months. Thanks for this pic!

Anybody have experience with franklin cider on B118? There is old tribal knowledge what works on what rootstocks. Thinking B118 is great, but sucks on certain rootstocks. Trying B118 at my camp. Bought 3 b118's on Franklin cider to try out. Got an enterprise, crossbow, and 30-06 on b118, might as well be iron wood. Got 2 liberty's all bobble heads.

I have a FC from Stark on B118. It's doing well.

You probably saw my post about my experience with B118 on the other thread. The franklin have taken to the B118 rootstock and do well and have had decent apples, the problem with here seems to be with the B118 rootstock and leaning. If B118 works in your soil the Franklin should do well.

Got some Roadkill left (orange flagging), Droptine (tall with lots of limbs) and Golden Hornet left…really wishing I had more late droppers to help the critters in the next few weeks..gonna be pretty brutal with a lot of snow (for PA) and cold temps and wind..afraid we are gonna lose some deer but I guess that’s how it goes…

We haven't had bare grass since Christmas, and only 1 week of grass since Thanksgiving.
