Hunting with higher temps

I was just at one of the farms and watched 2 deer get up out of some cover, walk over to a water hole to drink and walk back. That was at 11am. I would be hunting between water and acorns right now....and I am!

If it is hot, this is what I do. Sit by water in and oak trees. I might just skip it if it is really windy. First week is nice time to shoot one in MN. For me, I'll be in ND at my son's FB game on opener.

C'mon guys get out there. Lets see some harvest pics!

Good luck guys! Nothing but does/fawns on my main spot. If I go out, it'll be w/ my 5 yr old in a ground blind someplace.

Don't let these temps slow you down if you've got a hot oak pegged. Once the sun drops, those bucks will be moving!

I'm hoping to leave work a little early to get in a stand this afternoon. I'll also be hunting Saturday evening.

Temps, moon, wind, all sorts of stuff impacts deer movements. That said, I try to let deer tell me when to kill them as much as practically possible on private grounds. If I'm getting somewhat consistent daylight pics of a buck I want to kill, I'm hunting him regardless of conditions.

Where I use the conditions is on public grounds or when a buck is flirting with legal light. In those situations, I wait for a cold front to stack the odds of him getting up a smidge earlier.

Also, I almost always have "fun" stands to head to that are very low impact. On those, I go whenever I get the urge, regardless of conditions or intel.

I wish I could get up north and in the stand tonight but they will be long in the plots by the time I get there. Saturday should be decent. We shall see.

Tonight is really one of those perfect storm type evenings.

I want to see some hero shots tonight fellas.

Rain with t-storm at 5pm. Debating about not going now.

good, let it rain all night and maybe they will be on their feet an hour before sunset tomorrow :p

Got my license at FF, in line with a dozen others.

If I can't sleep again tonight I'll probably hunt the AM.

My neighbors were seeing bucks out in the dry bean fields and doe/fawns in the alfalfa. Good luck tomorrow Mn guys!

I am thinking I might not deer hunt until Nov 1, try to get in a full week before firearms opener. I also want to get in more grouse hunting this year. Probably going to do a weekend where we hunt at our place on a Saturday and then hunt up on the iron range on Sunday. Sounds like numbers should be pretty good this year.[/QUOT

My plan exactly. I got a new pup that needs some experience.

4 deer in the cow pasture this morning. Stuck around for over 20 minutes. Didn't run when I walked out for a picture.

I'll be honest. I didn't see that many deer in the fields on my way up here. Less than normal actually

Squat here so far.

Basket 8 at 10 yds in the first 15 minutes. Nice to see a deer. My son sat on a different farm and saw 2 does and a fawn in the alfalfa next to him.

I am hunting on Arts and I have shot 4 pheasants so far. 3 hens and one rooster. Saw a couple other guys in trees so just sat down on the fence line.

If we weren't on trophy only for this year, I'd get in the stand unless the bugs and heat are going to be annoying. I'd be very mindful of the wind and take a low probability sit over a good one with bad wind. It'd be nice to be back up in a tree, 15' closer to God and all. But for this year, I'm gonna buy a 10oz bar of silver with my non-res bow license money instead.

except in situations where the bucks are feeding longer distances away from where they're bedding and you can hunt closer to bedding areas, this time of year is about the toughest morning hunting for mature bucks there is. My experiences and logs from 4 outfitters combine to say the overwhelming majority of mature bucks are in bed before shooting light this time of year. Anything can happen in the deer woods, but I hope you guys are either hunting spots your intel is telling you Mr. Big is ripe for an early season AM encounter OR are hunting "fun," really low impact stands.
