Habitat out loud

Looks like it. We have yellow ones in Ontario. I think it's certainly a sign of a healthy ecosystem if you have wild orchids.

My new plot is up and going. I got done digging it Saturday night and seeded it Sunday night. I got an inch of rain Monday afternoon. All bets were on rain friday night, so I scampered there as fast as I could and got my lime and gypsum down before the rain.

Got a little puddle in the new water hole.

I kept a pile of topsoil from the water hole for future use. I planted that full of pumpkins and squash yesterday.

Everything is up and hydrated. The lime and gypsum rained in. Should go nicely from here.

Keep us posted on how your pumpkins & squash come along.

I think I found a big deal on my property. I’m a complete weirdo when it comes to the little things and what they mean. I was out looking for storm damage yesterday and saw this flower along my trail. I’m fairly certain this is a lady slipper.

Is it a big deal? I’ve never seen one, and apparently they only bloom for a couple weeks, and it can take years before they bloom.

I found the smaller yellow ones on my property up in our same deer zone. I think there are two varieties and I only found them once. I own a part of the farm that has been in the family for over 100 years.

I have seen lots of the Lady Slippers in a few locations in the Chippewa National Forest. I worked with a surveyor in college days.

This that new plot from the other end. Somehow I always end up with the good part of the plot farthest away from the blind.

This is the thinner soil in the north end. It was high enough, and I didn’t need to bury much here, so I mixed up the soil a little.

This is where I stripped off the topsoil and put it back when I was done.
