Was also thinking. I have a quick hitch so not sure that would help me much anyways.
I think I'm going to try it too, tape off every other row for 15" rows.
Did you mix the oil dry at 50 /50 with the seed? I've been looking at rice at Costco....but the switch is smaller.I just used 25 lb of oil dry with the seed and calibrated. But that was with Big Rock switch.
I think he is talking about Floor Dry....like mechanics use for an oil spill. (I keep some around too....to put on any oil leaks from cylinders and such). It's relatively cheap and fairly small granuals.....but it may be somewhat abrasive IMO. It's likely similar to kitty litter. What is oil dry?
bill
yes I have those charts, a lot in 7.5 inch rows. I want to do 30 inch rows I think
It seems like if the soil is right, a 3p600 will be great, but if it's crusted or hard packed, there will be a lot of seed laying on the surface.Planted a sorghum screen and a beans this week with the 3p600.
I disked prior to the sorghum planting and didn’t get the surface too smooth and planting performance was meh.
First field I planted beans left me considering a true no till drill as getting seeds buried was less than great. Second field with different soil worked great!
Foggy I just used a 25 lb bag of oil dry mixed in the seed and calibrated. Use it also for clover seed. Yes it is the stuff that soaks up spills.Did you mix the oil dry at 50 /50 with the seed? I've been looking at rice at Costco....but the switch is smaller.
How much seed did you mix with the 25 lbs of floor dry? Equal amounts? I assume this was in the small seed box....did it go thru very well? I may do this with the tiny switchgrass seeds.Foggy I just used a 25 lb bag of oil dry mixed in the seed and calibrated. Use it also for clover seed. Yes it is the stuff that soaks up spills.
thanks....thats good to know. Putting down 5 lbs of Switch Grass to the acre is not much seed. A filler could help allot. I may try 50/50.You got me thinking now. May have been only 10 lbs of oil dry as the field was only quarter acre. With 2 lbs of switch grass. It did work fine. If the switch was taller right now I would post a picture. Was very happy with first year growth which was last year. Small seed box. I have messed with different fillers as in oats, livestock pellets, pell lime and have liked oil dry the best.
I was hoping you would weigh in. I have not drilled as low as 5 lbs / acre before.....and was thinking that is not much seed. Less than a gallon in quantity as it looks to me. May give calibration a try with that small seed amount before its time to get the job done. Gonna plant in ten days or so.Why not just use the small seed box with no filler?
