Garage Torsion Springs

I just had a 16" spray foam insulated garage door installed for $2300 by a legitimate garage door company. This door has fully enclosed panels and the foam is sprayed inside each panel. This was a full installation which included tracks and springs. It's 2" thick and made by Ideal Garage Doors. Very heavy and a very well made door.

I’ve got a 12’x12’ on one side of my shop and a 14’x14’ on the other side my shop is about 20 years old. I once had to tighten the 14’x14’ spring by a half turn or something about 10 or so years ago and was a nervous wreck dealing with that spring. Today if that happened I’d likely hire the local overhead door company to come deal with it. My 12x12 only gets opened a few times a year the 14x14 maybe once a day on average. Years ago I worked on my mothers overhead door and ripped the top of one of my knuckles open when all hell broke loose and I had my hands near the spring so I’m not really to keen on working on those springs it could of been much worse. I got lucky!

As of now the fraud department of my bank is still investigating this situation. My wife has gone to lengths to investigate this herself, as well, to pass along much info to the bank. The bank has not allowed the charge to go through. I hope that's how it settles. Wife learned that the guy who came is actually the fraudster himself along with 3 brothers and their mom. They're jews and most likely not US citizens. They're pretty sneaky at what they do, and hop around the country. The truck with IA plates was rented for 1 month out of WI. It's clear to me they're breaking the law, even though my wife paid the stupid-tax. If my bank rules against us I'll close out all accounts. Credit card would've offered better protection. We'll see what happens.

I missed your first post on this that’s a shit show hope it works out for you.

How did things shake out? Just for future reference, if you have a Raynor Door anywhere near, they will come replace a broken spring for $250, in and out in about 30 minutes. Money well spent!

The door failed again last week. The Israeli scammer had my lower tracks all smashed up, and the door gradually got stuck more and more. I got sick of beating on it, eventually took the pressure off the springs and lowered it down so that we had a closed door last weekend. Called the local pro (who my wife was supposed to wait on last month) on Monday morning and he came out a few hours later and installed new tracks and got everything running smooth as a baby's butt.

Glad you got it figured out. There's a lesson in there somewhere!
