Yeah it’s getting dry here too. Didn’t notice it till this past weekend. Farmer had a dust trail spraying fields. Little concerning

Been a tough year in the orchard so far this year. All the peaches but one young tree were lost during a late freeze. Kiefer pears also a bust. The big commercial peach orchards around here - one with 1800 trees - 100% freeze loss

Leaves on the fig trees were killed - but I expect them to come back out but wont produce as much

Early crab apples were pretty much froze out

and one of the crabs that made it through was totally defoliated by bagworms in just a few days

coons may have to go on a diet this year

My orchards look same. Figs especially got hammered. same on fields . stunningly beautiful with crimson but spring green up in full bloom. Chance of rain starting tomorrow. Be very timely.

I’m at 50% of the historical average rainfall. Definitely getting concerned.

My plots do look great though. Only thing using them is pigs.

As much as I like it being dry and not muddy trails everywhere - we need some rain. I have already started watering my fruit trees, blackberries, and garden

Catfish or the larger fish you see - bluegill, redear, and bass. Redear have done next to nothing. Bass are on the small side - I have not removed enough. I have whittled the catfish down letting folks who like to eat catfish catch them. There are about 25 cat left - would like to remove another 15 or so. They are very wary when it comes to a baited hook. There first one is easy. The second maybe. The third maybe in an hour or two.

Try using some string to tie the food from the feeder to a circle hook. Get 3 or 4 people to cast at the same time. They should slam the food without thinking. You can use another type of hook if you don't mind gut hooking a food fish.

When we had our catfish pond, we used to keep a trotline in it or jugs. Sometimes, we'd just use shiny hooks left out there. We'd have a catfish every day or so. It was one of my chores everyday, to go check the lines, bring in the fish and skin and freeze.

I know that would work - but me and wife are not a fan of eating catfish. I would rather someone catch them who would eat them.
