Are those brown turkey figs?

Love them and celeste! I have both at my place, but rarely get many due to the birds and deer.

Deer dont bother mine, nor do the coons, possums, or squirrels. Birds like them.

How's the millet and sunflowers looking and when does your dove season come in?

The sunflowers are head down, maturing. Some doves already in them. THe millet did good, but the johnson grass really took it over. But, doves eat johnson grass seed, too. Probably gonna start mowing some strips next week

I still have work to deal with and just got back in town yesterday. I hope to get up next weekend to cut a few strips and prep for burning,

I wish I was still brave enough to burn (or stupid enough in my case😉) to burn. That millet will sprout back in a hurry with a good rain if not burned.

Hope I have a light steady breeze or no wind at all when I burn, but I know better. Will try to burn smaller sections and then burn back to them instead of lighting the entire thing. You have a lot and could possibly do that and burn new areas weekly keeping fresh seed on the ground. It would be bad if it got away from you with all you have planted though.

The last thing I ever burned was a millet field - that got out. It is just me and my wife - and we are old. Part of my job used to be burning. I have burned thousands of acres but that one good scare is enough for the rest of my life. 😉

Got a couple of fruit trees starting to brown up. I am 40 miles from Texarkana - top of right column. I water my 50 fruit trees about 20 gals each a week. Evidently, not enough at 106.

seize the moment

fire up the brush hog and clean up the bottomlands

I did mine last week!!

After a couple weeks idle on my bigger tractor, I have my 7 ft bush hog up and running again. The 100 plus degree temps are a little uncomfortable on an open station tractor, but so far, everything is holding together.

How do you keep the critters off of them?

They love grapes at my place

I put sunscreen nets on them. I have a lot of sun-scald anyway - and these nets are 30% sunblock and keep a lot of bugs out and a lot of critters. I run a wire above the vine support wire and a wire 18” or so on either side of the support wire and put the net around the wires

Plus, I stay on the critters pretty hard

These are food plots. Plant them every fall with wheat or rye or combo. This is what they look like every Aug - weeds 12 ft tall. Bush hogged today. Will plant first couple weeks of oct. Mostly coffee bean, giant ragweed, marsh elder, and johnson grass.
