My pollinator plant presence is sure coming on this year. The more grass I kill, the more pollinators I have. Seeing butterflies I have never seen. My bees are happy. Never saw grazing on nwsg - but the deer are eating all kinds of these forbs. . Turning a nwsg biological desert into a smorgasbord visited by all sorts of wildlife

Nature IS a marvel. Sort of like Someone had a design in mind ......

Nice looking habitat, SwampCat. Pollinator heaven.

Worked some bees this morn and weed wacked around the hives. One hive looks like they are going to swarm. I need to split and replace some woodenware

Cleaned up some in one of the orchards. Apples looking good. Killed a coon last night eating the nectarines

Did a fair bit of bush hogging the trails today - on the uplands - way too wet for the bottoms. Had to swtich the seeder to the bush hog. That bush hog fights attachment every inch of the way. Took a look at the dove fields. One of the sunflower fields looks great. One is half assed. One didnt make at all. Planted the same way with the same equipment at the same rate. Replanted the one that didnt make with millet - which is doing well. Already sprayed for grass. This week will apply some nitrogen and they will soon be too tall to work. Deer sampling them a little

After bush hogging, went over to the neighbors and picked plums. They claim they are wild and were there when they bought the land. They are nickel size - some larger. Dont think they are chickasaw because of the larger size - maybe american. Picked four gallons and a lot more still on the trees

Lookin' good there, SwampCat. Plans for the plums?

One coon this morn - that makes seven and one possum within 100 yards of my orchard - over the last 3 days

Put some ammonia nitrate on my sunflowers and millet today. Sunflowers are going to be too tall in a few days to get in with tractor. Millet is now really taking off. Millet below

What rate per acre of ammonia nitrate on the millet?

What rate per acre of ammonia nitrate on the millet?
I put 150 lbs 32-0-0 per acre. I probably would not normally do that, but I had pre ordered for my sunflowers and that 2 1/2 acres didnt work out for flowers so planted millet and used the fertilizer up that I had.

This is how clear the water in my pond used to be before I put a fish feeder out there

Image

this is what the water looks like after running the feeder for a month and a half

Image

there is some green color to the pond now.

I am not real sure what is going on now - maybe the fish finally have enough to eat - but when I started feeding, the fish would eat all the food from a 15 second feeding, three times a day, in about three minutes. Now, there are just a few fish dimpling the water - they dont look like a mass of piraña anymore when feeding. I think I will cut one feeding and cut back on the feeding time of the other two and see how that goes.

Deer are eating a swath through the sunflowers- may not be any left for the doves

I could never have sunflowers. Can't even plant a few up by the house at my place.

My plan was to overwhelm them. I was going to have about ten acres of flowers, but the planting didnt go so good and I ended up with less than half that.

About to sample the fruit? Actually, I dont care if the deer eat what they can reach (coons dont get the same tolerance). This granny smith apple tree so heavy with fruit a lot is “low hanging”. Had a two inch diameter branch break under the fruit load. Still a loooooong time before it is ripe - end of Oct

a lot of interest in the apples- fox checking it out mid day

Last supper for this coon - hope it was worth it

The deer in top photo passed on the apple. Several deer in there today and I dont think any of them ate an apple. The apples still are awfully sour.

Minerals/nutrients of increased fish poop are rocket fuel to phytoplankton

Hence the green color from the algae bloom
