Always a nice surprise...found this today from last years spring planting along orchard around 18" tall.

It was in a perfect spot so I cleaned up around it and screened and caged it.

Spotted a few more this spring over in thorns at other farm they should be fine protected by nature.

Are they chestnuts or ACs? Look like chestnuts to me, but I'm not great at ID from leaves.

It's a chestnut, just one. It's about 35' from a row of caged chestnuts that are 3'-4' tall and it's not to close to fruit trees so it should be fine where it is growing.
I noticed a few over at the other farm too in the CRP strip along woods about the same size mixed in with thorn bushes that should be OK with no cages.
