We had a great opener too! (but I didn't take a "pile" pic, just wanted to start cleaning).

The little guy had to pee and found nature happening. Being around kids and seeing what they see always reminds me to slow down look at things a little more closely. Anyway, I thought this pic turned out well.

We did much better than expected for a 1/3 acre field. We hunted yesterday afternoon and this morning (my brother had to run by noon) and each limited out both times. I had my birds by 4:08 yesterday after starting around 2:45. And it was cold this morning but they eventually flew pretty well. Had to be one of my best hunts ever.

Good luck to all!! Hard to beat a good dove shoot.

Oh and we wrapped a few breasts in bacon and grilled them up along with backstraps. Absolutely phenomenal.

Dove hearts and gizzards are must saves! Role in flour and fry in some butter and they are great.

My oldest son and I along with my buddy and his son went out Monday morning for a little while and did good. My buddy has a seven week old pup that he is starting and she had her first retrieve ever.

Had a productive opening day, under an hour had a 4 man limit, friends who don't get out dove hunting much had a blast. Had ten for supper last night, went with fried in cast iron an finished in the oven with home aid gravy from the drippings.

I should've brought the gun with me when I checked my foodplot yesterday. There were a few doves hanging out on a dead tree overlooking the plot. One of these days...

It has been a very good dove season here, the cool weather has kept them moving around. We have had a few really nice shoots in the past two weeks.

How do you get the lining and grit out of those tiny little gizzards?

One cut in the middle (very shallow so that you don't get into the pouch), fold in half, then role the pouch out. Super quick and easy. No mess.

"The Europeans sell them in restaurants as squab." A squab is a young unfledged pigeon.
Doves and pigeons are members of the columbidae family. They are found all over the world. ... Generally, the word "dove" is used to describe the smaller species of pigeons. The columbidae are part of a larger family called an "order," and it is called Columbiformes.
There you have it my friends. :-)
