Developed a rash on my hands.

I believe its not a kill on contact bug spray.. I’ve heard anywhere from 5 minutes to 24 hours to actually kill the tick but, should be well before a tick has time to infect you. Usually 36-48 hours.

I’ll be honest permethrin doesn’t work well at for me. Very unimpressed. I think for it to be half way effective you have to soak your clothes, let air dry and likely soak again. Just a one time topical spraying doesn’t do crap. I’ve watched ticks crawl right up my pants an hour after spraying

I agree with SD tick talk post. Wait until after July is over as ticks seem to dwindle in numbers or as he says find a place to go. I believe the reason is water becomes less prevalent and it forces them back. I know I will not access my property now until mid August to do food plots. Hope you're feeling better soon omi. That is scary stuff.

When I got it I didn't have a rash on my hands or feet but have heard several that did. The ticks I usually get in late summer are the 50-100 around my ankles that I have to use duct tape on

I’m not overly impressed with permethrin for ticks either I normally try and grab something with deet.

Geez. Just zapped 2nd recliner tick in 3 days since visiting my land. Yep, da muttley is right below my feet as always. Only good news is these are wood ticks not deer ticks so they claim unlikely to carry Lymes. And nope, don't wear permethrin soaked clothes while inside my house but maybe I should start lol

Hope recovery goes well. Had a coworker's 18 year old son almost die from the newer nastier tick disease. Almost think my wife's cosuin died from a heart attack at 55 might of been the tick disease. He owned a lawn business here in NY.

Not a big believer in permetherin. Seen em dance on my clothes. I enjoy the adirondacks because they're practically tick free, so far. Hunting lower NY, I am skeemish about going through brush. Spend more time hunting the december season with a flintlock, partly due to ticks being more or less dormant then.

. . . I'm not convinced they need to stay on you for 24 hrs to transmit. I'm sure the ones on me that got me sick were on me for much shorter time. In both instances i got rashes, one was a classic bulls eye at the site of the bite but the second time it was a non bulls eye rash roughly a day after a tick bite and not even in the exaxt same areas, but that night .

My wife and I were working on the garden a few years ago in the afternoon. When we came in she found a tick attached to her, which I removed and saved in a ziplock. The next day she had the classic bulls eye. From expose to removal was no more than 5 hours. Two take-homes: 1) It did not take 24 hours for the tick to transmit Lyme disease and 2) The rash appeared within 24 hours, not the usual 3-7 days. Treatment used by our doctor was some high dollar antibiotics.

I hate using bug spray and other chemicals. But I might have to start using permethrin from now on.

Can deer smell permethrin?

Permethrin is odorless to us, but deer may be able to smell it. Some of the record deer harvested were by hunters using permethrin. Those who failed to harvest tend to blame permethrin. The human scent is far more of a threat to deer than permethrin. Tests on other repellents shows deer can smell them, but don’t associated the smell with danger.

Getting much fewer ticks on me since adopting a habit of soaking clothes in my home treated .05 solution of permethrin. I mostly just do jeans and shirts now. Used to do socks also, but stopped. My work boots are always getting some spray.

I’ve had best tick repellent results with mix my own permethrin spray by thoroughly soaking my shirts and pants and letting them air dry a day in the shade. I’m talking about using a half gallon of the stuff through a pump up garden sprayer per set of clothes. A light spraying doesn’t work. Tuck your pants in your socks, wear knee boots and a hat that’s been sprayed well also.

The 0.52% solution is easy to mix, and I buy the concentrate by pint. Soak 'em good and let them dry for a day. I spray my socks and hat. It is literally pennies per spraying and my tick problem has been reduced significantly. I also use this concentration around camp sites to reduce (eliminate) ants coming in through the electrical cord and jacks as well as reducing chiggers on nearby plants.

I mix my own as well. And go hot. I’ve had better luck with OFF. But the times I feel permethrin works is when you drench your clothes and let air dry for a long time. With that said I can’t help but wonder how harmful that chemical is to us in those doses

Back in time I used to buy the spray cans of Sawyers Permethrin. Just a light spray of my outdoor clothes worked well. Then I started mixing my own and apply with a spray bottle to make a light coasting on all clothing and socks. Let them dry in the shade. Seems to work well for me. Still find an occasional tick.....but no big deal. I also think spraying my tractor around the cab and 3 point is helpful so ticks dont ride along.

I have sprayed my camp site and buildings with Talstar insecticide and that really works to cut down on all types of insects and spiders, etc. Also have sometimes sprayed the bottom of my blinds in summer.......and the seems to reduce insect issues in the blinds too. Not good at doing these things every year due to time constraints.

We use permethrin and have good luck with it.

We also use on on the dog sometimes. She was on tick medication but tick pills take itme. They have to bite and draw blood to get the poison and die. On a bad day, she can get around 5 ticks on each ear, with many more all over her body. The label on one bottle of permethrin I got said it was ok to apply it directly to a dog, sugesting wearing rubber gloves and working it into the fur. With that, she comes home with no ticks.

But be very careful around cats. Permethrin is toxic to cats.

Stuff I tried was called Rainbow idk I just didn’t feel like it worked really well but I wasn’t soaking my clothes in it either maybe I was using to lite of application.
