Developed a rash on my hands.

Went and saw my dermatologist friend and now being treated for Rocky Mountain spotted fever.

I take every tick precaution you can take short of just not going outside. I haven’t found a tick attached on me in years.

Stay safe out there my friends.

Bummer man. Glad you got on it and are getting proper treatment. I feel like it’s a matter of when, not if, most of us will contract some tick borne disease at this point. Their population explosion in recent years is amazing. I flicked or pulled over 30 off me the other when I was walking a line with a surveyor.

Glad you got it diagnosed and getting treatment. It's always on the back of most of our minds when spending time on our property's. Precautions are just stacking the odds in your favor but no guarantees.
Crazy to think you didn't even have one stuck on you and still contracted it. I know it's semi-common but still sucks to think about.

Get well soon. Glad you posted that- never seen that before. Agree the tick borne disease seems like it just gets worse and worse

Heard about that one but first time seeing symptoms. Have been treated for Lymes and try to be vigilant on tick checks. However....this year tick count the highest from sitting in my recliner. No joke. The muttley is always under my feet after a day of outside fun and believe the ticks are mostly from her since I strip down and do tick checks when first getting home. Just dispatched one about 20 mins ago several hours after a very thorough check and complete clothes change.

Our dog was just diagnosed with erlichia. Last dog had it too. I know a gal who had rocky mountain spotted fever over a year ago. Tick diseases becoming more common. Alpha gal getting semi common in north AR

Iv'e had lyme disease twice. Ticks were a daily thing for me for most of my life. I'm more carfull now mostly with permathrin. but i still get one on me at least once avery week or so. I just cant keep out of the woods. I think I'm allergic enough that I can usually feel them crawling on me and get them off b4 they attach them self. Never had any lasting effects from the lyme disease. I think it's like covid, could be mild and go away all together (with the approporiate anti biotics) or could get into a long term thing and end up dissabilitating. For me the anti biotics have allways done there thing and no more symtems. But I think everyone reacts differently. I'm not convinced they need to stay on you for 24 hrs to transmit. I'm sure the ones on me that got me sick were on me for much shorter time. In both instances i got rashes, one was a classic bulls eye at the site of the bite but the second time it was a non bulls eye rash roughly a day after a tick bite and not even in the exaxt same areas, but that night I got plentl sick with bad fever and all. Luckily i had a good relactionship with my DR and he got me on the corecct antibiotics the nect day and thing turned around quickly.

What are the symptoms of Spotted fever if not treated?

Wow, I'm glad you are getting treated, and I wish you the absolute best. How does the doctor think you got it if you haven't had one attached?

I was shocked by the number of ticks in Ohio this year. I've never seen anything like it anywhere before. I really hope they come up with a plan to combat this issue.

Permethrin is your friend.
As I said above I spray all my clothes and shoes and socks with permethrin for farm in spring every year. Wear long sleeves. Pants. Knee high socks. Knee high boots. I use Picardin lotion on exposed skin. It wasn’t from any lapse of due diligence.

Hard to know unless I had one that I just didn’t see or find.

Can be rough with bleeding issues. Hearing loss. Can be deadly.

That said if treated with doxycycline early then really good chance of no long term issues.

I have no other symptoms besides rash. It’s possible it’s something else but rash on hands has to be treated for RMSF to prevent long term issues.

I hear ya. I got both ehrlichiosis and lymes before . It sucks for sure. I try everything too and have had the best luck with permithren treated clothes. We need to burn more in the springtime too

Sure does Brian. Thanks for the well wishes.

I burn too!

Hope you and everyone else stays safe. Ticks just getting worse and worse.

Permethrin is your friend.

I hate using bug spray and other chemicals. But I might have to start using permethrin from now on.

Can deer smell permethrin?

I’ll be honest permethrin doesn’t work well at for me. Very unimpressed. I think for it to be half way effective you have to soak your clothes, let air dry and likely soak again. Just a one time topical spraying doesn’t do crap. I’ve watched ticks crawl right up my pants an hour after spraying
