Conspiracy theorys, where do you stand?

Stats for Univ of Illinois ... scroll to bottom to see data on Univ of Michigan and others for comparison. Yep, a sizable group of Asians (China, India, Japan,Korea); however not all Chinese

I don't think it will happen anytime soon, but if the prestige of a US education wears off, it is going to hurt us in more ways than one.
Very good post. And the quote above concerns me. American exceptionalism has depended on many things but innovation is one of them. We decry “the government poring money into Silicon Valley” but the synergistic effects of universities, industry/tech and our governments mutually beneficial relationships benefits each and every one of us.

When my brother graduated HS 22 years ago, he had applied to U of I and didn't get accepted. His ACT was 26 (good but not great) and had nearly a 4.0 gpa. Classmates did get accepted who were behind him in those categories as well as class rank. They were minorities and he was white.

Really interesting. Was on campus 5-6 years ago. Almost ran over about 7 very international looking students who would burst out in front of my F-250 with their heads buried in their phones in the crosswalk without looking. Tried to send our daughter there to get a good degree, play sports and represent her own state. Everything about that school seemed vapor locked. Financial aid, sports money, the coach just couldn’t make anything happen for a qualified student athlete from their own state. Falling all over student athletes from California that didn’t make it to Christmas break.

Ended up sending her to SEC. It was cheaper, she had a fantastic experience, she ended up playing 4 years of d1 sports and working for the athletic department. Was mentored by some great people. College town was so much nicer than Champaign. No libby-libby leftwing demonstrations on campus. So glad that Illinois didn’t work out.

Champaign is a dump. Iowa City, Ames, Lexington, Tuscaloosa, hope he ended up someplace nice.

It sure is a dump. I've been there a few times. It's gross. He ended up where I was, at Illinois State. He went into criminal justice. Spent his first year in the field spying on insurance frauds. Came out with some great stories. Now he's at AJG helping settle the disputes from his home office.

My other daughter is a Redbird. I don’t mind Normal.
