I think you're giving law enforcement a bit more credit than they deserve. The information about it being a Station 6 or similar firearm came from NYPD. I'm not trying to criticize my friends in law enforcement, but we need to realize that they are just people too. Many are as equally uniformed as the rest of the public when it comes to firearms. Certainly there were officers that knew better than what the top brass was saying, but it wasn't their place to correct them. Back when I ran in those circles I was amazed at the lack of knowledge and abilities when it came to a piece of gear that could prove so critical but for some may never be needed in a career. A deputy in the next county over didn't care for his sidearm to the degree that he didn't realize it had rusted to the point of being inoperable until a qualifying day. Fully a third of the people I went to skills with had never handled a firearm until our first range day. Over half had never held or fired a handgun. Again, I'm not criticizing them, they're just normal people that weren't interested in that small yet potentially critical element of law enforcement.
