Clover fertilizer question

Since we're on the topic, what do you guys use to foliar fertilize clover? How much and how often?

Never did foliar, but have broadcasted fertilizer on established plots.

On my junk log landing spots i do that.

80-100 lbs/acre triple 15 and 500 lbs/ acre pelletized lime. Try to avoid doing it mid june to late july.

I went from 80% bare ground to 2ft tall oats in 3 years.

I’ve done a little plot boost with micronutrients but never true foliar

PlotBoost looks like just 1-0-0 with some micronutrients. Antler King's clover fuel is 0-0-28. I'm probably looking for something with P and K.

Let us know how it goes. Always been interested in foliar sprays.

I've done it a few times but the weather is usually spotty and I can't tell if it helped or not. The last few years gave had some bad droughts.

Man the droughts have been bad here too. I didn’t get to plant fall crops till first of November because it didn’t rain till then. They are doing well now but looked awful all during deer season.

Well just to update everyone, I have 1 ton of Magpril I will be picking up on Friday.

Had a guy from another hunting forum that is based in South Carolina tell me about it. He works for Meherrin Ag and Chemical.

Its a new product that is magnesium and calcium. 250 lbs is the equivalent to 1 ton of ag lime. It starts working in as little as two weeks and lasts 2-3 years.

It is only sold in 1 ton super sacks. We will see how it does but the product is REALLY taking off

This stuff?

It looks like it's more for correcting magnesium deficiency vs low pH.

The math just doesn't work out on products that say you only need a fraction of the product vs lime. It's a similar concept to this.

Agree. There is no free lunch.

I do think these products can help one crop get going which can get the regenerative process going. But there is no way they do long-term corrections on soil pH.

So my choices were do nothing since I can't find ANY ag lime, I have been looking for 3 months. Or try this product that was offered to get things started.

So I opted for getting things started. In a perfect world I would choose the AG lime and spread it myself. But it just doesn't seem like that is meant to be this year.

No one is faulting your choice. Your previous post rings more of marketing buzz than specificity. It looks like a solid product for mag deficiency but not ideal for raising pH sufficiently. There are a lot of beginners out there that are buying products they don't fully understand. We're just trying to help make sure folks understand what they need vs what they're buying. At one point, I was in that place too. Communities like this help educate us all.

Definitely didn't mean it that way. I am hoping to use this product this year, and revisit the soil test and lime application again in 6 months. Hoping then I can find bulk ag lime available then. Basically using this in a pinch

What’s price of that product? You can get a pallet of simple pellet lime that will do the same. I would compare the prices.

Reading about the product and its sister calcprill it looks like most pellet lime.

It looks like a weak dolomitic Pell lime. That’s the most powerful pH raiser pound for pound.

Good news is, you have a high buffer pH. Probably only gonna take a half ton per acre to get in the strike zone. Don’t put on any more than you need though. It’s gonna make your calcium / magnesium ratio even more out of whack. I don’t think you’re in any trouble, just don’t go buck wild.

How many acres are you dealing with here?

All combined about 7 acres, but it is split up and multiple soil samples were pulled for that reason.

Can you explain the buffer ph and what it means/ does? Explain it like you are explaining it to a 7 year old 🤣
