Catscratch House and Habitat build

Way to go at CC. My oldest boy ran it his Freshman year after his second shoulder dislocation in less than a year, football didnt seem like the path he wanted to continue down. He finished every race he started, I have/had the utmost respect for that. I can't even imagine running that far if my life depended on it!

I am jealous of the waterfowl on your place every time I see you post a picture of it. That is the one thing that just couldn't get checked off on this property. Now that my buck tag is punched, I could be setting in a blind on occasion popping a bird every now and then. I have to admit though I get just as much kick out of calling them into the decoys or getting strafed on a fly by as I do actually shooting them.

Turkey creek did you post your buck pic?

Yes, it is under the "Live from the Stand" thread and I put a picture on my "Maple Creek Farm" thread.

That's a great deer Turkey!

The duck pics are from the deck (in fact all of yesterday's pics were from within a couple hundred yds of the house). I absolutely love to watch them and especially love to listen to them. We don't hunt that pond. Growing up hunting Cheyenne Bottoms and Neosho I learned that ducks will stay at a refuge in a heartbeat. So the pond by the house is a refuge (most of the time) so we can watch and listen to them, but the other ponds on the place are fair game!

Had a new buck come through last night with an interesting stuff going on one side. I think we're about to start seeing a lot of traveling and chasing.

They got 9th at State. Were ranked 12th. Beat a couple of programs that I highly respect. Every single kid on the team ran their PR that day. Not easy to get everyone one to peak at the same time. They showed a lot of character under pressure. Very proud of them!

Did you mention cold temps? Sat morning was a little chilly in Wamego.

1A. A total of 86 kids in the High School. Our football team is still undefeated on the season also, it's been a good fall for our sports. Big playoff game this Friday, hopefully they can pull out another win.
I coached a kid named Chad Williams, and his brother Tyler. Great kids! I'm guessing you aren't that Chad...

How was that traffic with K-State homecoming and the construction? 😂 My wife works for KDOT and she was pretty concerned.

I had a plan! We took back roads up, avoided road construction, and stayed the night in Wamego. Had zero traffic or restaurant issues at all. Even did our Friday workout on campus, visited the football stadium, the fitness center, and the student union... all with no problems at all.

Checked some plots. They are growing great for such a late start!

Ha. Nope, not the same Chad. My wife graduated from a Kansas school near Newton that is pretty good in XC. Berean Academy. Not sure which class of school they are.

Sounds like you got some good athletes! Enjoy it. :-)

Small world! Berean is about an hour from where I live. They are in the class above us (2A) with quite a few more students than we have, but we've seen them at competition many times each year. When we were in the same class I always loved to compete against them. They always have tough runners who didn't give an inch to anyone.

Nice crappies and cool to see a mix of black and white crappies. Largemouth that size are also good to eat as well. I don't prefer to eat larger bass, but the smaller ones fry up nice and crisp just like a big crappie.

What did you catch the crappies and bass on?

Crappie on feather jigs under a bobber. Bass on a beatlespin.
We catch a nice mix of whites and blacks. I believe we even have some hybrids.

The biggest crappie I've ever caught is pictured on the first page of this thread. Caught in same spot as last weekend's fish.

Do you skin your bass filets?

I'm liking the mowed strips with wheat. Probably should throw out an exclusion cage for shits n giggles.
