Catscratch House and Habitat build

EVERYTHING eats persimmon. I believe it's mostly off the ground. Never seen evidence of them being eaten off the tree, but that doesn't mean it isn't happening. Ever bite an unripe persimmon?

If so, you won't do it again

We had wind a few days ago. Every damn pear and apple is sitting on the ground on the north side of their tree. I have yet to catch a deer eating fruit. I am starting to catch them in my milo though. I'm liking the lanes I mowed into the plots.

Did some spraying and general goofing around the place this morning. Found one of my favorite snakes. They damn near glow when ya have them in the open, but let one get in a tree and they disappear! Very cool and docile little guys.

That is a cool looking snake. I dont think I have ever seen one of those before in person.

I just did a range map on them and I don't think they live up by you (rough greensnake). I find several a yr while working or running. Most people I show them to didn't know they existed here. Very secretive critters.

I like the way you tied him in a figure 8 knot. (lol).

Kind of reminds me of a brighter green version of a North American Racer. Cool snake for sure!

Threw out some seed this afternoon in 2 different plots. Ladino, alfalfa, and forage collards. Chance of rain Thursday-ish. I'll toss in some wheat and rye next time I'm available if the chances stay above 50%.

And... I got a shot at yote from the deck at 300 meters (he was playing with either a deer or calf leg by the cove on the left side of the lake). I'm not a great shot but the first shot put him on a fastish scoot (after a spin and nip at his shoulder), the 2nd rolled him.
Great afternoon!

Haven't had rain in a very long time. A few weeks ago I sprayed some plots with gly. Then Friday I broadcast some small seed and last night I threw out awnless wheat and winter rye into those same plots (pics a post above). We are getting rain right now! And it's supposed keep raining for a couple of days.

I also hit mowed lanes in the milo very heavily with WW and WR. I'm invisioning bright green lanes through the brown milo this winter with deer staged through them.

Good luck with the rain! I spread another 25 lbs of Winter wheat onto areas that I had seeded a few weeks ago. The seed I previously broadcast barely had any germination.

Bad germination due to no moisture, or another reason?

We've gotten rain today and the temps are still warm. Should be what the seed needs. The ponds however need more.

I would guess lack of moisture. We are NOT going to get squat out of today's rain once again, maybe .20"

1.75in since yesterday. Forecast is to get more. I sure hope it's right!
Sorry you didn't get much. I bet it slips up your way though.

We are hexed! Watch the radar ..... you miserable suckers to the south of us drained those clouds. 😂 The majority of the rain drifted to the East of us yesterday as it came North from your area. This morning it has stalled out 30 miles to the south of us and is just setting there.

I little off topic but I was curious as to how your daughter's volleyball has gone? I'm guessing Saturday was Substate for them? Did she play well?

Little Cat has kept me busy the last couple of weeks with his Cross Country team winning a League Championship and a Regional Championship. He earned All League and All Regional honors individually too. I'm pretty excited for him.

Way to go coach!
They got 9th at State. Were ranked 12th. Beat a couple of programs that I highly respect. Every single kid on the team ran their PR that day. Not easy to get everyone one to peak at the same time. They showed a lot of character under pressure. Very proud of them!

Did you mention cold temps? Sat morning was a little chilly in Wamego.
