I did something similar a few years ago with crab apple and persimmon seed. Made a line with the tractor tiller and worked them in. One crab apple came up-lol. Maybe the deer hit them before they got big enough to see? Tried the same thing with acorns and had really good luck. I went back and caged the ones that were appropriately spaced.
It should work if you can control the grass and weeds.
Those ducks are going to be awesome. Can't wait to see what they look like.
I once used a wire wheel......mounted on a bench grinder.......on some wood items. It made a really neat "feather like" surface on that wood. .....and it kind of burnished the wood too. It may depend allot on the wood species and such. Be worth a try on some scraps to see if it could provide some feather-like texture??I'm hopeful a bunch of apples will germinate but I don't really think they will. If they do I'll get serious about it with some protection for a yr or 2. Might even make a triangular cage so that the deer can just eat what grows out of it. I can get several hundred pounds of the pomace stuff if I want it.
No clue if the ducks will turn out worth a dang. I have an image in my head. Chances aren't great that I can convert it from image to model.
I'll absolutely try that! I was going to do smooth and shiny, but a rough and feathery look might look a lot better (not to mention it probably hides a lot of stuff).I once used a wire wheel......mounted on a bench grinder.......on some wood items. Yep....will definitely hide imperfections. I had a pretty stiff wire bristles on my grinder. I'm sure the wood grain and hardness and species used will make some big differences.....but it could be a nice effect. Could also clamp the wood in a vice and use a drill and rotary wheel chucked up to do similar work. Your results may vary. lolI'll absolutely try that! Yes, we're absolutely blessed with this place! You have a beautiful property. That oak grove is amazing.
We have a great mix of oaks; burr, red/pin, chinkapin, and dco are native. I've also planted a few sawtooths. Depending on conditions we usually get a month or more of dropping.Oak grove ought to be a candy store for deer and other critters. Nice looking area, Cat!
