Bluehill 2025

Im guessing buckman and big dog are your findings sandbur? Same as midwest deer trees?

I like a nursery that sells rootstock too....

Be nice if bluehill sold courthouse too.

A coworker has pretty happy this week. gave him 3 turning points and a roadkill on anty. Wold of liked both for home, but had some other trees to plant. I do have turning point parked on my franklin cider tree. Might topwork a toringo crab next year at home into turning point. Got buckman and courthouse planted at camp this year. Little 3 footers in rootmaker pots.

Anybody on here have RE gould's Cherry Valley crabapple? I can see the hill it grown on from my treestand at the farmland I hunt. Probably 15 miles away. Might be a good one to put in the hedgerows there.

I ordered 5 BH trees this past spring. All 5 look pretty good. 1 looked to have been eaten more aggressively by Japs - maybe it was the candy crab. I'll check on it. Good 1st yr to get past. Was on the brink of needing watering, but rains came in time.

Yes on Buckman and Big Dog.

I think you are hooked. Someone/ somewhere is a bad influence on you.

;)

Trees are like fishing lures. You have to have more than one of each. What if they are biting your last 1/2 ounce daredevil and you lose it?

The best time to plant a tree was 25 years ago. Next best is now.

Last week I bought a bunch of spinners because they are no longer making them. Old brand. Thinking I should have bought more…

I did order the Happy Valley tree. As a PSU alumni, I had to pull the trigger. I just ordered 1 less tree.
I did the same thing..only got 4 total (1 was one of the new pricy ones)..also but a peach and a cherry for my front yard for people to eat..I’ll probably add more later if I can find or make some room for them…

I got enough roostertails and spro jigs till I'm about 473 years old....

I got doubles of liberty, emprie, sundance, macoun, enteprrise, I got 3 of galarina at home. I got 2 kerr's, but might be digging up one thats too close to spruce trees.

At camp in usda zone 3, I got 3 or 4 30-06, 2 or 3 Violii;s, 2 or 3 winter wildlife, 2 dolgos, and 2 or 3 Kerr. When I graft again, I'll be doing more courthouse and adirondack crab.

Do any of you guys have any experience with a mature sonofcal crabapple? I planted a few last year and it appears blue hill is no longer offering it for sale any more on their website.

Hmm that is weird. I could of swore he had it on his website when orders first opened up. Maybe not though. I planted one last year and its growing great. He has gotten rid of a few different varieties throughout the years. Wonder if he learned more about the tree and doesn't like something about it. Thats another reason that's makes me want to plant more know varieties.

emal him. He might have a few, or maybe can make you some for next year. Even when a grower stops selling a tree, he may have the parent tree around to provide scion.

did a search native hunter 2023 thread talks about sonofcal a few times.

Yea that’s what I was afraid of, hopefully it wasn’t a lemon

My guess is people want different varieties every few years, so you change what you're growing on a rotation. I noticed he didn't have Galarina this year too.

Mine is growing very clean and had blooms this spring. Unfortunately I have it planted in a frost pocket and I think the blooms got froze out. Same thing happened to my Big Dog nearby, and that tree has fruited well before.

I’m finished planting apples and pears in frost pockets. Persimmons are the way to go in those. They seldom fail to fruit there.

When picking my trees, I try hard ot get bloom group 3 or 4 trees. Turning point is a late to bloom tree from bluehill. Out of maybe 10 different crabapples, I notice many are early to bloom 3 iweeks if not a month before my group 3 or 4 apple trees. Turning point is a good exception. Also, 30-06 from whitetail crabs is maybe a touch earlier than enterprise which is group 4. Definitely very noticeably later than the average crabapple. I have young turning points, but from reading on here, I consider that more of a seedling of a apple tree than a true crabapple. Nonetheless a good addition to the back 9......
