A black bear hunt w/ my son, recommendations?

roymunson

5 year old buck +
Wanting to do a spring bear hunt in 2027 with my 13 year old. He likes to hunt, loves to fish. Thought a bear hunt in the evening and a fishing adventure during the day wouldn't be awful.

Would go somewhere in the lower 48, or something into Ontario. I'm in NE Ohio.

Any places you could recommend?
He's the primary hunter, but I'd probably have to take a crack at them too while I'm there.

Thanks in advance.

The big woods of Northern Maine. Plenty of outfitters. Endless wilderness and great fishing. Sounds like a great trip.

I think it's gotta be a spring hunt tho

Ah crap...I thought Maine had a spring season. Just checked it out, and yes....no more spring bear hunts. Had no idea. Sounds like there are some Indian reservations where it is still legal to hunt with an outfitter.

I thought Ontario stopped their spring bear hunt years ago.

Ontario got back to me and said he needs to be16 to hunt. So that won't work

Anyone got directions on a state to pursue? I'm new to bears.

Northern Minnesota ?

Mule Shoe Outfitters. Wyoming

Idaho has spring and fall bear hunting

I did a spring bear hunt in western Manitoba that was really neat. Took a bear and caught an 8 lb walleye and some other eater fish too. It's a great wilderness experience. Seems to me we were near Waterhen (sp) in Manitoba. I found the outfitter at a sports show in MN....and was able to drive to the location with a freind. We both took bears and caught great walleye. I think we were there for 5 days.

Yep. And ID allows baiting. MT does spring and fall hunts too but no baiting.

I'd think some of the mountain states might charge a fair bit more than some of the flatland forested hunts though? Mountain population density and accessibility is more challenging.

Not a huge fan of baiting, but success rate goes way up with outfitters who can bait.

NY has a september season.
