    Consolidating

It’s been a while since I’ve been in there. Overrun with deer (great bucks!). I think Wilcox finished up in the late 90s maybe. Knox is an exceptional place to hunt. Difficult to learn but worth the effort.

    Consolidating

Those are great pics!! I hunt Knox quite a bit and the ranges are great!! At first I was gonna guess Wilcox but maybe it wasn’t complete in 96. Is that Yano??

    New house

Great idea Jack! Ours has been a 2 year process and we still missed some things. We lucked out because there was a mobile home at the site when we bought the land. We had electric, city water and approved septic already there. I don’t know about your state but I did not have to pull a plumbing...

    Couple shots of my plots

Yeah, we tried corn first last year and the crows and coons ruined the field as soon as it came up. Then we tried beans (no fence) and the deer ate them at 3". Ended up putting in turnips after that....that was a bust as well. The deer ate them early and the field sat empty most of the season...

    Couple shots of my plots

Got some time this morning as I wait to get a haircut. Thought I’d post some of my recent work. I posted my tractor up in a different forum. The pics in this form are the results of all the hard tractor work (keeping it running). A good friend of mine is a wildlife biologist so he created a...

    Oldie but a goodie

Here’s a shot of my John Deere 1969 2020. It came with the farm and was/is in pretty rough shape. They let it sit out and fixed everything with duct tape and rubber bands. It came with that disc, a bush hog, grader box and cultipacker. I was very fortunate that I didn’t have to buy all those...

    pole saw opinions

I just bought the same Stihl Pole Pruner and love it! Mine was the residential (less expensive) model. The pro series telescopes more but I didn't need it....if I cant reach it from the ground, dad can just lift me up in the bucket. IMO, a pole saw is a crucial tool if you are maintaining...

    Honey Bees

Makes sense.....Maybe I'll do a pollinator zone and include some sweet clovers as mowing has been a crucial part of the plan for the ladino.

    Honey Bees

This is encouraging in regards to the spray. I'm surprised that you don't see a lot of action in your white clover but I'm guessing it's because you have other options. All I have is ladino and both plots are full of pollinators all the time (including wild honey bees). I'm wondering if I see...

Process to cutting a tree up?

Lots of good info here and I appreciate the thread!! I've really stepped my game up since purchasing the farm. Keeping the roads clean is a job in itself....now we are putting in a wood burning stove so I've really been trying to get with it. Here's the method we've been utilizing..... 1...

    Gas can vent caps

Fed up with these same issues, I just bought a can from Rural King with a hose on the end...it looks like a "race can" (cans you see at motocross races). It's got a screw on vent cover and about a 10" hose out the top. It seems to work really well. No spills, breathes easy, you can manipulate...

    New house

I completely agree with your first statement!! I see it everyday. I know I can't outrun the "bad stuff" but I figured a 245 acre buffer zone can't hurt. We are wiring for a security system but honestly, I hadn't really thought about the gas thing. We will for sure be on LP for our furnace...

    New house

Thank you and I hope the process goes smoothly for you!! I feel like (hope) it will be one of those situations where once we are there, we will wonder why we didn't do it sooner. Fingers crossed!

    New house

Thanks guys!! I appreciate the kind words. Honestly, I've been back and forth about the move. It's our dream but now that it's becoming reality, I'm focusing on all the things that COULD go wrong.......Tornadoes, copperheads, ticks....losing one of my kids in the woods : ) The slab is a bit...
