Couple shots of my plots

Shannon Hall

A good 3 year old buck
Got some time this morning as I wait to get a haircut. Thought I’d post some of my recent work. I posted my tractor up in a different forum. The pics in this form are the results of all the hard tractor work (keeping it running).

A good friend of mine is a wildlife biologist so he created a plan and has helped me to implement it. So far I have three 1/2 acre plots. Two are in clover and one is in beans. Last year we tried beans but the deer decimated the field before they could get established. This year we fenced them and it has worked great!

Both clover fields are doing well also. I’m working to undo a lot of mismanagement. There was some clover in each field but mainly weeds. They are in much better shape now. They would get spotty clover and then dump 500 pounds of corn (not my style).

Been A LOT of work but there’s something about seeing that little seed bust through the soil that makes it all worth while.
Don’t want to wish the summer away, but I’m ready for October!!

looking good, if I ever want beans, I'm going to need to invest in a solar e fence setup, and do it right.

Your plots look good. Nice work !!

We tried beans twice and they got eaten to the ground when they got to about 3" in height.

Yeah, we tried corn first last year and the crows and coons ruined the field as soon as it came up. Then we tried beans (no fence) and the deer ate them at 3". Ended up putting in turnips after that....that was a bust as well. The deer ate them early and the field sat empty most of the season.

That fence is the ticket. All the materials came from Rural King and I think I have $270 invested if I remember correctly.
