We have a saying in this house that pertains to stomping out a problem before it escalates.
"Don't let the dog up on the couch". Sure, that cute little puppy is so tiny and adorable when you first bring it home and you just want to love and cuddle it. But then, little by little the pup starts growing up and all it knows is that the couch is his too. Muddy paws, hair, fleas, poison ivy oil, and drool all end up on the couch that you (and guests) want to use. And the guests end up with a 100 pound mutt with bad breath walking on them and breathing in their face. Eventually, that cute little pup turns into Cujo. All because
you taught the cute little 10 week old pup that the couch was his territory too. Yeah, just say "no" to a lot of things right off the bat and it will save you lots of misery in the future.
My wife and I get along great. But she learned early on not to bring stinky, perfumed household products into the house, she knows not to put chic music on the radio, she learned that every fall I'm going hunting, and she also know not to bring wind chimes into the house. I learned a lot too...it's not a one-way street.
But with wives, family, friends, and society in general, it's best if the dog is trained from the beginning...bad habits and practices are harder to break than they are to nip in the bud. Remember when we only had 2 genders? That insanity needed stomped into dust early on.
So yeah, just say no to wind chimes.
