Swiffy's View From Rocky Knoll

Swiffy, I just looked at your pics again, awesome property, I love the way you are managing it. Give little Perkins a pat on the head for me and I hope you and the family are well. Bowseason opens here on Saturday, but logging has starting adjacent to me and my picture count has gone downhill. We are on week seven with no rain and everything is burning up, need rain and cool weather, please send some if you have any to spare.

Hey thanks a lot Owen, good to hear from you! The family is great and little Perkins has been busy sniffin out pheasants. Ill give him an extra pat.

Bow season started here on Sept 14 and ive been trying to get my wife on a nice buck. Last Tuesday she had a good one coming in and some neighbor dogs screamed in and chased it off!:emoji_rage: Last Saturday she has another good one she watched for 40 mins and then when it came time to shoot, she hit her bow limb on the stand!:emoji_scream: One of these days God will bless her for all the hard work shes been putting in!

It is 48 degrees here now and it never stops raining! The few field that the did get planted this spring (due to rain), are too flooded now to harvest! Its bad. You can take all the moisture you want for a while!

Here’s the buck my wife spooked lol

Took a walk today and happy to see my Rye and Oats are coming up good in my beans!

Very nice, thanks a million for sharing!

Things look good.
I’m not so sure the rubbing post will work. The metal post may or may not affect it. My favorite way is a post hole digger.

Hey guys I know I need to play catch-up here before spring arrives! I seen lots of good stories here over the fall/winter. I’m going to try and put a bunch of pictures down to document 2019 at Swiffy’s.

It started off really good with my oldest daughter getting her first deer during our new youth deer gun season. F0EDB1AD-0CC3-4BDD-B691-9352E5B1A87D.jpegEF41C212-87FE-4419-83ED-8B02F9BAC67E.jpeg3290F471-C5C8-4A58-A427-00683DEE2D59.jpeg
I was very proud of her for finishing it all by herself!

End of November I ended up taking the oldest buck at our place with the bow. A 5 1/2 yr old that I have many pictures and 3 yrs of sheds from. Not much for a rack but a quality deer a was happy with.

He was actually hit by the neighbor during gun season on the 9th... so I was worried he’d not make it... didn’t seem to slow him down.

You can clearly see where they hit him in the back.
I heart shot him at 42 yards. My my little girl and Perkins came to help find the arrow.

Winter came early and I had 11 bucks in the area still. ALL OF THEM SHED BY JANUARY 21! I’ve never seen it over that early!
Here they are enjoying my beans...

Love the pics, congrats to your daughter. I have my milkweed seed in the freezer getting it ready to plant.

Thanks Owen! Let me know if you need or want more. I have lots and lots of milkweed seed currently.

Nice updates! Can't wait til my kids are old enough to hunt! That shed antler pic is really cool. Congrats on getting the oldest buck on the farm.

Thank you, hunting with your kids definitely brings an entirely new level of excitement back!

Yes, Ive been thinking this buck would grow some... kind of disappointing. Hes been within 2" of 115" for 3 years now. Just doesnt have it. Still a trophy in his own way!

Nice update you and your family had a great fall! Huge congrats to your daughter on her first deer, that is to cool! Congrats to you on your buck too, sweet shot at 42 yards. Perkins looks like he is having a good time, did you get a chance to take him out bird hunting?

The pics of the kids and Perkins are awesome! Man, that was a heavy old buck, did you weigh him? Our bucks are still holding antlers. I had pics of one last weekend that his left main beam was 3 to 4 inches past his ears and all points broken. His right beam was snapped off about 4 inches from his brow tine. Looked like he had a hard rut for sure.

Thanks! And yes we did get out after a few roosters. He does very well and is in every crevasse and rabbit hole there is!

Sounds like you’ll just be looking more for pieces!!

My buck dressed like 178 pounds... which is nice but nowhere near what a 5 1/2 yr old buck should be in our area, he’s never looked like a big deer. Most 3 yr olds for the last couple years are much bigger, body and antlers, than him. Oh well!

Winter has found me trapping and shed hunting, 2 of my favorite things. Were having a tough winter. I can tell the critters have used up all the plots and are struggling a bit. Seeing more winter kill lately. They shed early and I’ll do my part to keep the predators off their heels!7FFF9533-715D-47C2-BD07-14E0FE6EBD21.jpeg97A47232-E3C2-4D96-99F2-A8B479DFAB7A.jpeg244860D9-54B9-43BA-A1F4-3657D9F14148.jpegA4DB3C33-6FB7-45DB-B202-CF4799B52489.jpeg929532A5-E756-4E3E-B193-0DEBC5DFB09F.jpeg83053317-DEF1-4564-A00E-5F2E46068EEA.jpeg

And here’s the fur tree as of today (I know it makes you smile Native):emoji_slight_smile:A3C3EC7C-138B-419B-AA41-3C17D3FA684A.jpeg
I killed 20 coyote off my pond last winter. This winter they’ve been tougher to come by so maybe I’m making a difference!?! I’m also seeing more Red Fox than I’ve seen in 2 decades. Good times!

It makes me do more than smile. I’m literally ecstatic. Great job.

Digging the catch. Just curious if your waiting to skin for a reason(like fleas)? Always found it went easiest when hot an fresh.
