early spring...

John, the long range forecast has this warmup locked in for the foreseeable future. Our ground will be thawed in no time. I'm thinking of bumping up my planting date for cuttings, both ordered and self harvested. Good or bad idea?

I'm not John but I vote bad idea. In MO nothing goes into the ground before April 15th.

If you get bud break on your cuttings followed by a hard frost one night it could kill them.
Besides you guys up ther in the tundra could get three feet of snow in April. :)

We get frosts into early June most years. The cuttings I planted last year were frosted a couple times after budding out but my survival rate was still pretty decent. I'm more concerned with the the cuttings I will be harvesting and planting myself. The mother plants will likely get fooled into budding out in the coming weeks.

If you don't have a way to store your cuttings I'd say you will have to chance it. Willow will take being used as a cutting for a bit after bud break but I don't know about anything else.

I think good chance of early spring this year to.
