    Apple rankings

Stumbled across this website today. It's worth a look when you've got free time. Not sure the rankings are accurate to my tastes, but the reviews made me chuckle. https://applerankings.com/pick-an-apple/

Wisconsin duck hunters - Northern opener

Me and my duck hunting crew live and hunt in the southern zone. But we've tried to hit the Northern opener the past few years. Since I'm just a passenger, we go where the boat owners want to go. Which seems to be just above the zone border, where everyone and their brother goes as well. We go...

    What left this behind?

Any idea what left this behind? The large seeds looks like a plum. The smaller are probably some type of wild cherry. Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk

    Strange leaf coloring

This was a grafted tree that grew fine last year. This year the scion never leafed out, but the seedling rootstock grew several branches below the graft union. The leaves have very strange coloring. Anyone seen this and know what it is? Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk

    Uploading Pics

For the past few months I've been having trouble uploading pictures. I click the attach files button, choose the pic, and it uploads fine. But then it doesn't give me the "insert" option. So the picture won't go into my post. Any clues?

    A Microfarm

I should have started a land tour a long time ago. But I didn't have any hunting success on our property until this past year. Probably 90% of my hunting has taken place on public land, but this year all the domino's fell into place. My wife and I are both unskilled factory workers, living...

    Sunflower cash crop?

Just wondering if anyone with farmland is switching to sunflowers? I noticed a couple farms in my driving area had switched some acres last year. Then I've seen this quote which leads me to believe sunflower prices will continue to climb. "According to the Brookings Institution, in 2020, 52% of...

    Cage failure

I've got a bunch of 4 foot cages with 2x4 mesh in my orchard. It's no surprise to find a deer has nipped off the terminal bud on the central leader. I'd like to replace them but the 5' remesh is so expensive right now. But then I go looking and the 5' remesh does not appear to be working at...

    What would you do?

I've got a Winesap tree that I bought from a big box store 4 years ago. It hasn't really grown at all since, as I've had to cut back the central leader due to dieback a couple years ago. Nothing has grown well enough to take it's place. This year the branches left on it only grew a few inches...

    Rootstock effect on bud break

Does rootstock have any effect on how early bud break occurs in apple trees? If I have Honeycrisp on 3 different rootstocks, say B118, M111, and B9, will they greenup at different times or all together? I have 30 seedling apples that I'm going to graft varieties onto. Most show no signs of...

    Tree damage

I've got a 7 foot Franklin Cider tree that almost completely snapped. A little over a foot above ground it is broken about halfway through, with a split up the trunk about 4". Should I wrap the heck out of it like it was a graft and see how it heals? Or cut it below the damage and graft a...

    Cheap target ammo

Put a new scope on my .308 Savage, and began to sight it in by shooting some Wolf FMJ rounds. I had 10 out of the first box that didn't fire. Switched over to the Hornady American Whitetail that I'll be hunting with and every round fired Anyone have similar issues with Wolf ammo? Any...

    Extreme Tree Planting

Watched some videos on the Ellen White tree planting method, and adapted it a bit. The trees I'm planting are 3yo seedling apples that will be grafted over to some of my existing varieties that perform well. Started by digging a 3' x 3' hole, 30 inches deep. You can see from the pic I've got...
