Wood burner in a blind.

Love it! Why sleeping in it? Is it your cabin or are trying to not bump deer in the dark? (Or does your wife some say-so in all this?)
Lol, it's to not bump deer. It's a very easy location to come and go from in daylight but extremely hard to do at night without bumping deer. I've seen a significant difference in Deer sightings by doing this.
My wife hates it, she thinks I'm going to die of carbon monoxide in the blind. I wait till I'm up in the morning to turn the heat on unless it's bitter cold. Curled up in a mummy sleeping bag I can handle temps in the 20s pretty well.

That's awesome! It's funny as I had the same thoughts as your wife. Worried that CO would get you in your sleep. Glad you've thought of it.

I'm curious how the deer react. Years ago I smoked my camo with a #10 can and some burning sticks. Deer downwind went bat$hit crazy blowing and stomping.

Guessing may depend on how often the deer smell smoke/fires? Living in a rural county in Florida with no trash pick-up, I burn paper trash several times a week year-round and living close to the center of my 100+ acre property with about 60 wooded acres burn fallen limbs very regularly as well.

I don't always purposefully burn a fire and smoke what I'm wearing when going to sit in my stand (only about 100 yards from where I burn many fires though blocked from sight by trees), but have done it multiple times and especially so if concerned that winds might not be predictably favorable and it didn't seem to hurt traffic or alarm the deer / seemed if anything to put them at ease. Probably doesn't hurt either that neighbors on two big parcels to my east and north also burn regularly.

Hillrunner,

what propane heater was it. Those nuway stoves might get too much draft without a damper on it. Almost any chimney based heating source will heat a 5x7 cabin ok. Got air leaks, insulation. Another thing, bing the cold air to the stove Have it direct piped to the income air, or put a tube with a damper that directs air at the stove inlet. Having it go across the cabin through a cracked window make the corners of the cabin cold.

Far as a CO meter goes, you could add a 12v battery and a trickle charger solar panel. You get lights, a small fan, even could use a 12v heated blanket.

I sleep in a 6x12 trailer with 1 inch foam insulation on the walls 1.5" on the ceiling, and carpet on the floor. I use a newport P1200 propane stove. Not perfect when its really cold out. Great when the nights are 20 deg F. Most nights its too warm in there. Downside is regulating the heat.

They say it makes about 5000 btu which is equivalent to a 1500w 120v heater. Really wanted one of these, but wouldn't work too well in a mobile trailer. Roadsalt getting in to the chimney pipe.

I use one of these CO meters.
