Bone dry in Ohio. I'm going to spread rye tomorrow and pray the forecasted rain makes something of it. Unfortunately looking like a lot of bare dirt so far this summer.

My corn and beans did ok. I just mowed the ragweed out my clover plots and the clover is brown and dormant. Praying for some decent moisture to green things up before the cold comes.

Just perfect here in NW Wi for laying down a heavy dose of WR on some bare spots.

But the clover and chicory are mostly looking great! No brassicas this year.

We've been really dry, like most others. I didn't even buy cereal rye bags because nothing was in the forecast. Of course the weather changed quickly and we got rain yesterday and today. None of the places that sell rye were open today. I still had several bushels of oats in storage, so figured what the heck, spread it and see what happens. I know it doesn't work well to throw and grow oats. Not out much.

It is dusty here in the Dayton area. I threw out half a bag of rye. The other half is soaking and will be thrown out tomorrow before I roll the weeds.

I did manage a tiny brassica plot, but it is solid, with good turnips and already a little browsing.

I planted yesterday with rain in the forecast next week into the weekend. Got a little rain on it last night. Hope the rain for next week holds.

We had rain forecast for yesterday afternoon and then off and on the next couple of days. I had 100 pounds of rye set aside just waiting for a rain. Yesterday looked promising so I threw the bags of rye in the truck, stopped at the local Dickey Bub’s and found they still had a bag of wheat and a cereal grain mix sitting on the shelf so I picked those up too. I drove out mid morning. I spread what I had over all three acres of plots with a bag seeder and headed for home. According to the radar it was raining by the time I got home. It rained a couple hours and then overnight it looks like it rained for a few more. The Raindrop App says we got .54 inches in the last 24 hours! It still looks like a chance of rain tomorrow again too. Fingers crossed!

I got 50 lbs of rye spread, half of it soaked for 12 hours. Flung out 4 lbs of beans that I soaked for a few hours. Then I hand-spread about 15 lbs of sunflower seeds that I soaked for 4 or 5 hours. Then I rolled it all as best I could with a 250lb water-filled roller. We got about 1.4" of rain over the following 3 days according to the rain gauge.

I left yesterday evening, so I won't see the results until the first week of November. I don't expect spectacular results, but I had to throw a hail Mary after seeing how crispy, dusty, and brown everything had become. Even the bush honeysuckle leaves were wilting. I just wanted to get something green going to make up for the presumably stressful summer.

Here's hoping.

We have gotten right at 2.5" since I planted Saturday. Will head up that way next weekend to check it out and put out another camera and an exclusion cage if I can remember to do that.

We have lift off. 5 days after overseeding and getting some rain the same day. No rain in the forecast the next ten days but temps in the 80’s and there’s still some moisture in the ground.

It's happening again. It seems the first 2 weeks of September are warm and dry nearly every year. Not great for those of us that topseed Labor Day weekend.

After a dry 2 weeks post planting, the weather cooperated the last 2 and the rye/clover is on its way now!

You rye folks got some nice stands starting. Mine isn't as thick, or atleast it looks like that. You guys broadcast, tilled, or drilled? How thick?

Did around 120lbs / acre both at home and at camp. Didn't use seed rye at camp, but did use seed rye at home.

We got two rain events in three days and went right to upper 80s and no rain in the forecast. Even for Missouri it sure seems like the driest late summer and fall in the last ten years. Probably isn’t, but it sure feels like it.

Are you getting this rain today out at your place? We’re getting heavy rain both at home and out at the property. Prediction is 3 inches total today.This should finally end the drought. Two nights in a row I’ve seen bucks chasing does at home and one big buck who no one in the neighborhood has ever seen before has been around two nights in a row chasing does. Looks like things are getting going in Missouri.
