Who are you?

Welcome! Another Missouri guy here. I live in the St. Louis county area but my property is in Crawford County. Texas county can be a little bit of rugged country but there’s lots of deer down there - and of course northwest missouri is great deer hunting. You’re in a couple nice locations. It will Be nice to hear what work you’re doing.
Thanks for the welcome. For the Texas Co. property I don't have any immediate plans, as it is on a cattle lease. The property has a pond that attracts wildlife from the Mark Twain Forest. Next time I am on the property I will put a solar cell camera up to assess what is coming to the pond (the trails are well worn, so I am guessing many critters use the pond). On the 13 acre Dade County property I have a hiddy hole plot and have harvested a couple of nice deer from that location. The Clinton Co. property is where we call home. This property started as 20 acres. On that piece I have 2 acres in food plots, 5 acres in grouse nesting plots and 3 acres in Monarch/Bee restoration plots (milkweed and other pollinator mixes). Last year I removed 10 acres of invasive cedars on this property so this work is just beginning. I finally was able to put a bridge (30# loading ramp) over the creek this year allowing access to the property without having to bother the neighbors. Last year I tilled the soil, and many native grasses returned (along with way too much poison ivy). I will be converting to no-till for the aforementioned projects.

In December I purchased the adjacent 65 acres which had been in a soy-corn rotation. This will continue on about 50 acres. The property has two 2-acre plots of oaks (planted in the 80s) and a 1.5 acre pond. I'll be putting clover on the ground around the oaks and pond, as well as leaving a 2 acre strip of soy or corn each year.

We are a sprayer company located in St. Croix Falls, WI. We love helping habitat managers with their spraying needs. Hope to get some good chats in on here!

Welcome to HT guys!

I'm another St. Louis area guy. I miss hunting Scotland County. The deer in Morgan County are much smaller, but the property is ours and we can do as we please with it.

As for the disagreements, that's why there's no way I could moderate a forum and have dramatically reduced my time reading and posting on any of them. No matter what the topic, too many people see someone with an opposing, or differing view as an enemy and nothing more. The vitriol is disgusting.

Good morning, from SC. I found out about this site from Archery Talk. I'm trying my hand at creating a not-till/no-plow food plot this year. This will be my first attempt at it so I've been doing a lot of research and the guys over at Archery Talk told me to check out this site so here I am. I hope to tap into the knowledge being passed around on this site to make the most of my small honey hole food plot. If this one is a success, I plan to create more on our property. Looking forward to learning from y'all.

Welcome to HT! There are a lot of folks on here that are very helpful and have a lot of years of experience, don't be afraid to ask questions bud.

Hi, my name is Greg. I’m in south-central Kentucky, just north of the Tennessee line. I am new to this part of the country and I am enjoying the challenge of habitat management on my 60 acre piece of heaven. I registered with this site (instead of “the others”) because I found myself coming back to it for information and I enjoyed the “generally” positive and professional responses from the other members. It is easy to get opinionated, but for the most part I’ve seen I higher level of keeping negativity in check here than on “the other” sites. I’m not one for social media or posting things, so I’ll primarily just be reading the great information on this site, but if I find something that works on my property, I’ll be happy to share with the group. God bless!

Welcome, Greg. I'm over in Christian Co., KY; also not from here (south Alabama boy), but have been here nearly 30 yrs, so it's now home.

The Ft Campbell area is a real nice part of the country. I’ll be interested to see similarities and differences in what draws our deer herds into our respective plots. I feel like the terrain and climate are quite a bit different for only being 3 plus hours apart and basically the same latitude.

Yep. 400+ miles from Greenup, way up in the east to Fulton, out west of us... there's a wide variation in terrain. Seems like the folks up in The Golden Triangle think that you've left the state once you get west of E-town.

Hello guys. I’m new to the forum and I live in west central ga. Grew up hunting and fishing on a family farm. I recently found this forum while trying to learn more about habitat improvement. I’ve been reading lots of the post and can’t believe I just now found this site. Can’t wait to get to know someone of y’all. CJ

Hello, I'm glad I found this forum and hope to learn a lot from all of your experience. I have had my farm since 1987, and have been planting food plots and doing woodland management and improvements since that time. (Actually called them Deer Fields back then, and was told by Indiana DNR that food plots were bait) My farm is in Pike Co Indiana, in a mixed agriculture - big timber border area. I am currently planting 7 plots in an attempt to keep year round food for the local heard. I have 3 ponds for deer and fishing. I hunt exclusively on my own land at this point in my life. As Growing the wildlife for my harvest is more enjoyable. But like many of you I assume there is never enough time, and I don't think I can be satisfied until ever square foot of my farm is at its best.
