Art - We got the pulp from an orchard about 15 years ago to put out at camp. ( this was before hunting season !! ) Deer and bears killed the pile, but we did get some seedlings hatching from all the seeds in the pulp pile. I guess you could plant some in pots ( ?? ) if you wanted a quick way to start apple trees. FWIW.
A local fruit press place here called "indian summer" lets people fill the back of there trucks with apple pulp for $10-$15. Just so happens most of those folks are deer hunters if ya know what i mean.... :)
When I started my experimentation with apple seedlings the orchard nearby that doesn't sell its crabapples made an exception and sold me some so I could plant the seeds. As I chatted with the young lady that works at the orchard, asked if I wanted any of the pulp. She said there are many viable seeds in it. She said some folks spread it on soils and will often get seedlings they don't want.
I understand. I'd call the game warden and consult. I certainly would not use it or anything else for point source feeding of deer. If you are using it as a source of OM for soil improvement, if you distribute it over a large enough area (may be difficult) I think it would alleviate much of the disease spread risk. Never hurts to consult with law enforcement if you're uncomfortable.
