Treestand storage?

P&Y Manager

Yearling... With promise
Wanted to ask for ideas on how you store your tree stands and ladders/sticks at the end of the season. Anyone have a good system for storage/organization? Pics welcome. I have space that I could create something instead of just leaning them all up in the back of the barn.

I use ladder stands. Already got them all installed for next season ;).

Once they are up, they stay up. Inspect every year and replace as necessary.

Spend twice as much on every stand, put out less, quality always wins.

With ladder stands, I use ratchet straps to secure them to the tree. At the end of the season, I release all the pressure from the ratchet strap so it is hanging loose. I tip the top of the stand a way from the tree a couple inches and set it back down against the tree. The loose strap is enough to keep it from falling off the tree with no weight in the stand. This keeps the tree from growing around the metal and allows the stand to move freely as the tree blows in the wind.

Next season, I'll inspect both the strap and stand welds and replace the strap if necessary.

I keep my climbers in a small Rubbermaid shed next to my garage. Keeps them out of the elements but they don't pick up odors from the house, barn, or garage.

Thanks,

Jack

I leave stands and ladders up but with loosened straps. I will take down all the accessories like bow/gun hangers, safety lines and pull ropes . Those items take up very little space. Checking and changing straps every once in a while is far easier on me than taking down and starting over each year.

×1 on loosening straps. Left my safety strap out 1 year and it was so tight I couldnt loosen the buckle.

I leave my stands out year round. Loosen straps @ end of season. Inspect/change before the next. Done.

I leave my stands and sticks at the farm. They are locked in several of those lockable steel work bins you can get at Home Depot. I also keep them outside for odor control. I will hang more of these next year as there are some good spots that produce on my farm, but I am a big fan of being portable and hanging a stand almost every time. I do this to avoid educating the deer as to my location.

I was too when I was young enough to feel safe climbing in and out of them.

I turn 58 in February. I know my days are numbered before it is unsafe for me to continue with this approach, but I will fight giving it up as long as possible. Lol!

Almost all our stands stay up. Most are Ladder stands now. The few hangon's we have up still, we run two ratchet straps on. We replace the oldest strap every year. Has worked well so far!

I do the same thing. I always add 2 ratchet straps in addition to the hang-on strap.

Same here, I use almost exclusively ladder stands that are chained/locked and leave them out year round. End of January I pull the pads off and loosen straps a little, early summer I will touch up camo rattle can anywhere that needs it. End of summer I put pads back on trim up shooting lanes and tighten or ad straps.
