But apple trees are resilient and I see new growth at the end of many broken branches.

My grafts that I top worked on to trees this spring came through in good shape perhaps because I kept them liberally dusted with Sevin.

Sorry to see that.

The Fall Webworms are pretty aggressive here this year. A guy can spot them early by looking for what looks from a distance like a fireblight strike. Unfortunately, I didn't start to watch for them until they had already fully enveloped a 7' apple tree with their netting and all the leaves inside had turned brown. Now I am carrying a nipper in my pocket, cutting off any newly started nests, carrying them away, and burning them.

I believe in a orchard with the enormous amount of them hatching spreading sevin would have little affect since they can fly in from other areas. :( I did dust my nursery nearly every day with sevin and had little damage. Perhaps the extremely new growth was not to their liking? If you have just a few small trees close home and have the tiem you may be able to minimize the damage with sevin and hand picking them off the trees.
