works now. Everything looks great! When was the white pine planted?

Not really sure, but the fact that it is alive is always a good sign. Most white pines we have planted in the last 5-10 years get eaten/destroyed by deer. Which sucks because they are my favorite!

I think it's our high deer numbers, those damn things eat anything below 4'.

We have a lot of nice white pines that were planted right after our tornado about 20 years ago.

10 more days, another 2". Been a great year for us on that front. Usually everything is burned up by now but this year things are lush as ever.

Winter wildlife crab? Where did this tree come from? I have not heard of this one. Do you know what the drop time time is suppose to be for this tree?

Crabapple with 1-inch diameter fruit which hangs all winter. Provides excellent late-winter forage for birds, deer, etc.

Ed- Do you think there was a pattern of your area having jack pine forest and then drought/fire and prairie area for periods of years? Speaking of the very distant past. Ddi the Indians manage the area for prairie with fire?

Did sand blow in during the 30's where it was better ground before that?

Ed ... Just got up here tonight ... our rain gauge has 1 7/8" of rain from the past 5 days. I got the last clover seeding and urea broadcast out this afternoon before the rain.

Art, I think we had a lot of oak savannah type habitat, but I'm not really sure. I havent studied it that much. My guess is when fire went away the jack pines became more prevalent. I just ordered the John Muir book but haven't read much.

Nice. Not sure how we did since Saturday but I would guess between 1-2". The radar looked great early morning. I think farmlogs.com said 1" this morning. More on the way. Been a great year for precipitation.
