As the season approaches, I thought it appropriate to provide an update on the StealthCam Revolver (which is sold by others using different names). The two Revolvers that are deployed are working (now), but the original camera deployed 16 months ago (back when these were first released) has malfunctioned on three occasions. Each time things cleared up with a removal of batteries and a reboot, but if these were deployed on a remote property, that would be a deal-breaker.
The revolvers definitely have their place. I have mine set to send pictures once per day, which allows decent battery life. I played with instant pictures and the batteries (16AA) lasted three weeks and the solar panels could not keep up.
I originally posted that I liked the Command software, and that is still “generally true.” I like that I can view pictures in landscape on my iPad, and it is easy to sort through them. The AI struggles at times, and many is called a doe has been identified as a hog and one large buck was identified as a cattle. The Gen 1 Revolvers I am using do not provide a video option. However, the cell picture quality is OK and if you pull the SD card, the pictures are very good.
Given the cameras are used in locations that provide 360 views, birds love to sit on the antenna—so plan to get a lot of pictures of tail feathers.
Overall, the Revolvers have met or exceeded my expectations. I get few false pictures than I anticipated, given the camera picks up the sun in all directions, which is a plus.
