My last order from Stark was very disappointing...not Franklin's just not satisfied with Stark anymore on the quality and how vigorous my last order of trees were.
I have been doing business with Stark for over 20 years and this was the most challenging season for securing my order of over 1200 trees. One change I have seen is they are shipping trees out using shredded newspaper to keep the root balls damp instead of using bark mulch. The shredded newspaper dries very quickly and moves about freely in the box while in transit exposing the roots to dry out. I see this as a cost saving measure that seriously compromises the condition of the trees once delivered. My trees received were one to two sizes smaller then what was ordered. Stark did a caliper price adjustment to my order. I also received at least 200 trees less then I had requested in June of 2017 on a pre-bud order for spring 2019. I could provide examples of one problem right after another with the challenges I faced this season. I have since brought this to the attention of upper management at Stark telling how badly the Marketing and Sales division has become and hopefully it will be corrected.
I wasn’t impressed with that shredded newspaper either. But it looks like my tree from Starks is doing OK. That was my first and maybe only order from them.
I am running out of room.
