Spruce Plugs

Not only is it tough to grow deer in MN, trees aren't any easier.

I'm jealous of those that not only have much easier winters but a drastically longer growing season makes a huge difference.

the extended growing season would be super nice, it would also be nice to not be limited to what can be planted, such as chestnuts.

Horta-sorb?
I can't say. I was so tied up in getting going, I didn't even look at the bag. Guy at Itasca just said to make it gravy and get to work. It smelled like there was an innoculant, but no clue what it was called. I've used plain water gel before, and this definitely had both.

HOpefully one of us on the forum can get lucky and get a pair of chestnuts to survive the brutal north winters and bear fruit and supply fellow minnesotans with a cold hardy strain. Doesn't hurt to keep trying I guess. Put it this way, I had much better success with chestnuts two years ago with that brutal winter than I did with norway spruce! My one chestnut I planted showed signs of life this past summer, whereas the norway spruce looked grim all over.
