Senate overturns Boundary Waters protections, a boon for Chilean mining company
The vote to allow mining near the protected wilderness area came over the objection of Democrats and two Republicans.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$Terrible. A failure of Congress, both parties are failing.
Why would that not be a plus ? Getting out of DC and going to Utah ?This is not good. I am really concerned over what will come of the US Forest Service lands after dismantling the DC office and setting up shop in Utah.
Utah is run by a bunch of shady individuals. They have been wanting to privatize public lands for a long time. As much as I hate to admit it, there are some things better left off in the federal government‘s hands. Why would that not be a plus ? Getting out of DC and going to Utah ?

Let’s keep in mind the Democrats in Minnesota, voted unanimously to give a state park near Granite Falls to the native Americans.Yeah - I am a little worried they may open USFS to more commercialization - grazing permits, etc - hand over to the states - or worse yet - privatization. Anyones guess at this point
The original post gives plenty of just cause for worry - when almost every R voted to open mining adjacent to Boundary Waters
Are you sure that is a true statement? Number one it’s five miles from the Boundary Waters. Who claims they are selling it to China ?Allowing a Chilean mining company into the Boundary Waters so they can sell metals/minerals to China doesn't seem very America First.
My thing is i don’t care if it’s 5 miles or 5’. If we don’t believe in the sanctity of some things we have no principles. I’m a free market capitalist as much as anyone but we have to have some boundaries (no pun intended) or we will have nothing sacred left. Are you sure that is a true statement? They attempted to give all the land around Red Lake to the Native Americans but it was shot down thankfully. Red Lake is a very popular fishing lake with huge tourism .
This same crew under Tim Walz is trying to establish more gun control in Minnesota every yr, & they are trying to limit ATV & snowmobile use on public land. Possibly making it difficult for a guy to even use his snowmobile on a lake in northern MN.
Would love to see every one of them voted out. Minnesota is a complete political disaster !
I think this country has learned allot about doing mining in an "environmental friendly" way over time. I beleive we can and should do both the mining and the preservation of much of these area. Still.....to refuse to allow folks to not use the resources that have been given to us is short-sighted in my opinion. Population growth is real and we need to selectively use the resources given us.Yeah - I am not confident any politician is going to act on my behalf for what I believe in. It seems They pretty much all have ulterior motives.
Crosby is absolutely awesome. We have a cabin in that area. The water in the old mine pits is crystal blue, trout by the surface! Good fishing !I think this country has learned allot about doing mining in an "environmental friendly" way over time. I look at the area nearby to me called Crosby Ironton. That area was mined for iron ore in a big way in the 20th centrury. it now has huge deep water lakes teaming with trout.....and lots of lakeshore development in some areas and the area is now loaded with bike and ATV and snowmobile trails and is a huge draw for tourism. The area is prosperous, and it's been a win/win for the economy there. Nature has a way to taking care of many things. I think we can work with nature and do both....just gotta keep your head about it. My 2 cents.
Westwind. I would argue that the removal of the 20 year ban is largely the fault of one party.Terrible. A failure of Congress, both parties are failing.
