Well, sit number 4 of the year and finally my first encounter. I’m thrilled. This guy was bedded about 70 yds away in the switchgrass and I had no idea! Never seen him before. He fed out into the bean/carbon load plot, then crossed the creek and circled up to head in the corn plot. Caught my wind and came straight in to 5 yds to investigate. Didn’t booger him bad, he just kinda trotted off. I filmed the whole thing. Was really cool.
He’s got some great potential. Never seen him before. But amazing to see deer bedding, using the plots and living here, bring on sweet November!
Down in Tennessee with my family, visiting my cousin’s. We got out last night and somehow managed to keep a 3, 4 and 8 yr old still and quiet enough for 2.5 hours to get my cousin’s daughter her first buck! NO BLIND WAS USED :). We got set up on a small, grass covered mound facing a bluff, with a huge bean field behind us. This is her 3rd deer at only 8 years old.
God had his hand in it, it was so incredibly special. Got down to the last hour and we saw the buck get up out of a draw in the middle of the field. We grunted and got him to commit and come in to 90yds but he didn’t provide a shot and circled around us getting back up against the bluff. It was down to the last 5 minutes of light, we grunted again and he stepped out of tree line at 70 yards. She was so nervous and the buck wouldn’t stop moving. Finally we waited for the right clearing, grunted at him again and he stopped. Her dad told her to breathe and shoot when she felt good about it. She DROPPED him in his tracks!
We all started screaming and congratulating her and the littles for being such good hunters! Could not believe it happened the way it did. And I got it ALL on film. I’ll post the video from my cousins YouTube channel once we edit.
I’m so proud of what my cousin has done to instill the outdoors in his family and home. And super proud of all these kids and so happy that my son’s very first deer hunt is likely a moment he’ll never forget even though he’s only 3. It was such a positive experience for him and he’s never been able to sit and be still and stay engaged with anything more than a few minutes. He helped us gut the buck and walking back to the truck he told me, “Dad, this was actually fascinating and really amazing.” Big words from a little boy.
Thanks Newbs!! I’m glad you watched it. And seriously, those apple guns are no joke. The video doesn’t do justice. I think they could probably send someone to the depths!
