Persian Clover and groundhog radish?

planted turnips oats n clover in April one year. I had almost bowling ball sized turnips in the fall. Best year for deer activity in that spot too.

Oats typically die on a 15 degree night. I take advantage of that. I add 20-30% oats to my fall rye. Deer focus on the oats while the rye grows. Then in the spring the rye and clover have a little extra elbow room.
I'd guess we are seeing different experiences based on a difference in climate. We hit the 70s by the end of April, and sometimes 90s by end of May. Our summers peak in the upper 90s to low 100s, with hair dryer winds blowing across KS. The hot temps leave the spring planted brassicas small and spindly, and growth completely stops when they bolt in early summer. No brassicas make it through our summers alive, whether fall or spring planted. For my area, they are a fall/winter food source, and add to the cover crop mix that diminishes around spring crop planting time- beans and corn.

Thank you for the information Tele and big bore.
