Might be wasting money on fancy seed on my part. But I like patriot clover from peddington You can plant that clover in august just fine. It'll survive. It won't put alot for the deer to feed on, but it;ll provide some. Oats die off at about 15 degrees. But, its an excellent nurse crop for clover. ladino and dutch clovers frost seed well. IF you intent is to be primarily clovers, I would throw some medium red in there too. Michigan is probably much like the adirondacks in NY climate wise. Some years there is frosts and even flurries before labor day.
Dutch white is aggressive and doesn't like to share the plot with grain seedlings once established. However, you spray the plot with a 1-1.5 quarts / acre of 41% gly, it will knock it back good. I did an experiment at home this year. seed then disc, disc then seed, and just boradast into my plot. I had a strip of heavy clover mowed a few times over the summer, a several year old strip of grains n clover, and a expanded spot. Spread then disc is taking the lead so far. All were sprayed with gly a week before and lawn rolled afterward.
Any recent soil tests? previous crops? What do you have to work with equipment wise. I do almost 2 acres at camp and a 1/2 acre plot at home with an atv got discs, cutipacker, lawn roller, drop spreader, sprayer, and a tow mower. Can borrow a tractor, but been doing good with what I have so far.
