My Pond

I was at my farm yesterday and took a photo of the pond. It came through the winter with a decent amount of added water. It was primarily dug for habitat improvement. To date the only things I have added have been Fathead minnows and concrete blocks for the minnows to lay eggs in.Going to add some hybrid Bluegills in a few weeks - 30 of them. Depending on the rainfall, the water depth can fluctuate by a couple of feet during the year, which is why I haven't added additional fish in the past. As with most of the habitat improvements I make - it's all kind of an experiment...;)!

The very center can range from 11 - 15. Currently I would guess about 13 ft. The pond really depends on snow melt from a nearby ridge. This will be the 4th year, but we had additional work done two years ago to build up the overflow bank and improve the inflow area.

Picked up 30 Hybrid Bluegills yesterday - decent size for .65 a piece.

Where did you pick them up and did you need a permit?

Bought them throughTheisen's in BRF. I had to complete a permit and file with DNR, but there was no fee and no review, just fill it and faxed - pretty simple.

Looks great and you can't go wrong with bluegill for tons of action for kids and you too. We put in a hundred coppernose bg last fall, but I'm afraid they were so small I just fed the bass. The ones you have are pretty good sized.

Hybrid bluegill are a great fish for ponds.We catch them on plastic worms when bass fishing and they can take it all the way probably weigh close to a pound,pond looks great
