Lowland bush ID

SD51555

5 year old buck +
Found some new thickets in the area yesterday. Looking for some ID help. This isn't low land. I'd say it's more so just not well drained. The pics are not great, but please take a whack at it.

The pic marked second looks like birch.
Edit. Art is right on the willow/tag alder

Maybe first is willow and second is tag alder?

Does tag alder have any value beyond cover?

I believe tag alder puts nitrogen in the ground. It grows fast in wet locations.

At the first land tour I had, Stu and Big Jerry (Freeborn) offered me a suggestion on mature tag alder stands. They said it does no good and I started making small clearings in it with connecting trails. I leave the Red osier when clearing and you get a younger forest opening with browse and a spot to sit and hunt if you can position the tag clearcut properly for stand access. It also can provide a grassy bedding area for a few years and the woodcock like it.

Some put alders in the birch family!
