John Deere 8300 Grain Drill

I ran up on a 8300 in great shape but it needs to be cut down for my use. Its either 10 or 12 feet and I would cut it down to 6 foot. Have any of you tackled cutting down one of these drills? It has hydraulics for retracting the wheels. I don't think it is a true grain drill, as I think it is so light that the ground actually requires tilling before planting.

I have an older that actually is already 2 pieces. All it needs is to have spindles and wheels added to the inside of each and you have 2 drills.I can use my other van brundt no till but my soil is light. These were usually used to plant wheat but I know some guys that would pull the drop tubes out and plant alfalfa with them.To bad you are so far away,i would make you a heck of a deal

Yep, when I get moved I will probably pick it up, plant my field and then butcher it to make it easier to use. I will probably even mod it to use the 3 point hitch instead of towing with the drawbar.
