Is Facebook as stupid as I think it is - or am I just old?

Ok - I thought I was joining the 21st century and joined FB a week ago or so. From what I have seen this was a big waste of time! Maybe I don't understand how it works or how it's best used. I envisioned it working more like a forum like this or even more like a blog where I can share what I want to share and allow "friends" to see what is there and have discussions to stay in touch. Instead it is currently a mile long list of all the stupid crap people have "tagged" or "liked" from all these other peoples pages and I could give a crap less. The ONE thing I have actually gotten that I was interested in was about deer management in IN. And the "you might be friends with" or "so-and-so wants to be your friend" crap is for the birds. I wasn't this popular back in high-school and I sure a crap don't want to be friends with all of these people now!!!

My Grandfather always said that tabloid magazines where for nosy people - well I think I found the digital version!!!

I think I may just crawl back under my rock and stay there for another century!!!!

Agree with Stu. You have to unfollow the crap otherwise it will drive you bonkers. If you do that and only keep the stuff you actually want to see it is pretty neat.

FB is what you make it. If you don't want to see everybody else's stupid crap, unfollow them. You're still "friends" but you don't get all of their posts, tags, etc.

I kinda like following some relatives and a few others on FB.....but don't care to post much. I can see it becoming a huge time drain to keep in touch with lots of people....as some do it.

I read more than I post on FB. Some people have their lives chronicled on that site. Yowser.

I can see it as being a great tool for keeping in touch with friends and family that you may not see very often - or even staying in touch with various organizations, but the shear volume of crap is overwhelming. I'll have to figure out the whole "un-follow" thing. My wife likes to use it to spy on the kids - my son (despite my warnings) seems to have a hobby of posting his misadventures while he is off at college on it. Not sure just how many pictures someone can take of drunks and piles of empty beer cans or parking lot burn-outs! I remember being young once as well, but stories fade - the internet is forever!

Thanks for the "un-follow" tip - if I can figure out how it works - it may just make this a more enjoyable experience.

I share a FB account with my wife under a phony name. We have only one FB "friend" and that is my oldest daughter(we have not even friended our youngest daughter). The only reason we even got one was to get the pictures she posts of the grandbabies. She said it was easier for her to post them to FB than to send them out to everyone in individual text messages or emails. I have about 7 or 8 "friend" requests from other close friends that know we have a page and we have not "friended" a single one of them, nor do we intent to. I tell them when I see them that I am friends with you in real life and I have no need to be "cyber-friends" with you. We will chat when we see each other like we always have. If I really need to speak to you I will call you, I have your numbers. I would hate to have an account with my actual name on it, especially after seeing all the people who have my brother "friended", folks he barely knew from high school that were older than me and I wasn't even friends with? People whom I would just as soon punch in the face as let them breath the same air as me, you know the ones. If I want to be your friend, I will do it in real life, I have no need to do it on a website as worthless and trivial as Facebook.

Not only am I not on facebook but I have pretty much stopped watching the news. My life is so much more enjoyable since.

I've gotten VERY selective with my FB newsfeed.... I'm friends with many people, but have unfollowed most of them. We are still friends, so they don't know I hate them :)

I get a lot of value from seeing pictures of close friends, keeping up with what they are up to. Fish pictures, kid pictures, hunting pictures, etc. I used to put up with a lot more, but lately I'm pretty quick to unfollow people. I get sick of my blood pressure going up because I disagree with someone. Stop following them, problem solved.

The last week of "rainbow" pictures and confederate flags has tested me. Lots of un-follows for sure!

I'm still getting more value out of it than I'm loosing. But just barely.

One of my biggest problems with Facebook is.....that I don't know whom sees what or who is connect to who. You best be careful what you post on that site. I don't want the world to know my biz.
