Fallow Farm
A good 3 year old buck
My cow peas are 33 days old. Some of them are turning yellow, of those, a lot are 3-5” tall. No browsing by the deer on these plants. Very weak looking plants. Some are doing great. Dark green, would be pretty tall if the deer hadn’t browsed them back significantly.
I did not do a soil test. We have dark black North central TX clay. Generally, very fertile soil.
I applied about 400 lbs/ac of 19-19-19.
It has been a very wet year. 30” or so rain so far this year.
I did inoculate them. I have not previously planted inoculated peas here (first year).
I did plant oats, wheat, rye, turnips, winter peas and some clover in the fall and had the thickest most beautiful food plot I have ever planted. It’s very good soil.
I have planted peas in much poorer soil with much better results.
Anyone care to take a stab at possible issues?
