I need a shorter tree or taller deer

Looks like the neck is really stretching. Must be good leaves, what kind of tree is it?

It's a black gum. It's by a mineral lick and they have always liked to bite at the limbs here. I whacked part of the limbs off so I could get clearer pics and now they are doing this.
