Question - newly started Burr Oaks

I almost feel like the 14 inchers are too deep. It seems like oaks, chestnuts, hazelnuts, and persimmons all will just keep sending down a leader root if they can. I typically am not going to be digging a 14 inch hole for every plant. I am not as experienced as you all, but prefer to just prune the roots before planting and have been wondering if this is setting them back too far.

Get yourself an auger bit for a drill. Makes planting easy, even at 14"

Oaks never overwinter for me in pots, but have done great when planted in fall.

Conversely apple trees almost always wake up in the spring when I overwinter in pots.
