Huge Tractor Tools

Before I became a tractor owner I always walked past the “jumbo” tool rack and secretly wished I had a reason buy some.

I now have wrenches and sockets up to 1.5”, giant crescent and pipe wrench’s, and a 30” breaker bar.

The only sizes I get much use out of are the 1 5/16” and the 1.5” on implements but the rest look good hanging above my bench!

What’s in your collection for the really big jobs?

I have 3/4” sockets up to 2.5”, 36” crescent, and half inch battery impact driver so far has taken care of my needs

36 inch pipe wrenches get used to break the nut on my pull behind mower clutches to de-rust and reset them every spring.

Nothing too exotic. Wrenches to 50mm. 48" pipe wrench. 3/4" sockets with long pipes. Torch. Mini doctor. Various bottle jacks. Widow maker jack. Air hammer. Milwaukees.

What’s a mini doctor?

I’ve never even heard of those before! Tool envy😂

I need to buy a couple of bottle jacks for sure.

If you use blaster spray you have to have as big of pipe wrench

I got some long combination wrenches that go to about 2". Got a 3/4 drive socket set that goes over 2". Impact wrench, jacks of various kinds, pipe wrenches and large crescent wrenches, and a welder. Got a small drill press.....and get by with it. There have been times that I would like to own an acetylene torch set.....but I always seem to get by without it. Same goes for a metal cutting band saw.....I get by with a sawzall or hand tools.

The big wrenches don't get used too often.....but come in handy from time to time.....especially with some implements. I hate swinging big heavy wrenches. A battery powered impact wrench and sockets has been really nice to own. At prices today....not much reason to not own one.

I’m a former heavy equipment mechanic so I have plenty of big sockets and wrenches plus torches, welders, hydraulic press, and plenty of air tools. For most anybody else that messes with tractors and implements a basic set of tools plus a big adjustable wrench , a 18-24 inch pipe wrench and a cheap 3/4 inch drive socket set (Northern Tool , Harbor Freight, etc) should handle anything you might have to deal with. If I didn’t have a torch and tank set I would be looking for a used set on marketplace That’s the only somewhat expensive tool I would suggest to someone messing with tractors and equipment

I recently bought the new 1/2” M18 battery impact driver and it’s a beast. I’m hoping I can let my big crescents and pipe wrenches hang in my shed and rust….the knuckle busting bas***ds! 😂

Growing up with big trucks for the family business, I have tools around that most people don't and at times I forget that. I mentioned online once about driving a seal into the tail shaft housing of a transfer case with a socket, which the person was puzzled by. "Doesn't everyone have a 2 5/8" socket?" (or whatever size it was) :)

This is the smaller of the two big pipe wrenches we had. I don't know what happened to the bigger one, loaned to someone else in the business and never returned no doubt Haven't needed to install any 8-10" valves in 30+ years so it's probably okay. lol

I got a 150,000 lb tow strap a while back. Fortunately haven't needed to unwrap it yet. 12" wide

What can you have that will require that strap??? That's semi-truck or road construction quality right there.....no?

Yeah just trucks or tractors. Anything that might get stuck. Thought I heard the rule of thumb is to use triple the rating of the weight of what is stuck. Figured if it's an 80k semi then at least went close to double.

Not really a tool, but I settled on s fuel storage and pumping solution at the farm.

I’ve had my first Flofast 15 gallon gas pump for about 5 years and I really like it. So I used up a bunch of “points” and got a good deal on a second one for diesel. No more lifting 5 gallon jugs to shoulder height to fill my tractor.

No, 15 gallons isn’t much fuel but the most I’ve ever used in a full day was about 12. So this isn’t perfect but I’ll always have a window overnight to refill. If I get the PTO emergency generator I’m considering, I’ll buy another 15 gallon diesel jug, or 2.

I've been thinking of similar solutions. What's the flow rate on the pump?

8 gpm either direction. They really work great for me.

A crane is really handy if you own any heavy equipment. In fact, a crane is the only piece of heavy equipment I have owned. It was nice to be able to use it to change tires on the deuce and a half.
